Pioneering technology

Your church’s bells, from your mobile phone

With Wi-Fi, a remote control or an app on the phone, the priest or the sexton rings the bells without climbing the bell tower: festive peals, funeral tolls, Vespers, the Resurrection at Pascha — every ringing pattern the controller supports.

The schedule is programmed once and the system rings by itself, right on time. If anything needs changing, it can be done remotely.

Respect for tradition

A bell is art and heritage

A bell is not just an object; it is a living being of metal and fire, carrying within it history, faith and music.

From the mould and the choice of alloy to the casting and the testing of the sound, every stage demands patience, precision and respect. Every bell born in our foundry has its own voice — a sound that will ring out for decades.

The third generation of the Tsitouras family carries on this craft, which for us began in 1930.

Tsitouras tuned bells

Bells tuned to a note, in the major scale

Every tuned Tsitouras bell is cast to sound a specific note. When the bells of a church match one another in the major scale, the bell tower becomes a musical instrument: the bells ring in harmony and, with an automatic system, play hymns (troparia).

In Iraq, for example, we installed four bells in C, D, E and G — 220, 150, 105 and 65 kg — with remote control and Wi-Fi.

FAQ

The questions we hear most often

How much does the bell in my bell tower weigh?

The weight can be estimated quite accurately from the diameter of the mouth. With a tape measure, measure the outside diameter at the bottom lip — the widest point — from edge to edge, passing through the centre. If you cannot reach across, measure the circumference of the lip and divide it by 3.14.

For example: 41 cm ≈ 45 kg, 60 cm ≈ 135 kg, 80 cm ≈ 300 kg, 102 cm ≈ 630 kg. See the full table and the weight calculator. Old bells by other makers may differ — send us a photo for a more accurate estimate. Do not climb ladders without proper safety measures.

How much does a church bell cost?

The price depends mainly on:

  • weight and size — the metal is the main factor;
  • the note, if you want a tuned set or a bell that matches the ones you already have;
  • decoration — reliefs, crosses, inscriptions;
  • fittings — yoke, clapper, mountings;
  • automation — electromagnetic striker, swing motor, bell-ringing controller, clock;
  • installation — access to the bell tower, whether a crane is needed, distance.

That is why we do not publish a price list: we make a proposal for your own church, free of charge. Send us the location of the church, photos of the bell tower and how many bells you have. Our bells carry a 10-year warranty of good performance when they work with our own bell-ringing systems. If you are replacing old bells, ask us about trading them in.

The church bell won’t ring — what is wrong?

Start with the simple things:

  1. Is the controller’s display off? Check the church’s circuit breakers and the unit’s own fuse.
  2. The display is on, but nothing rings at its set time? Check the time and date (they may have been lost after a power cut lasting several days) and whether the programming has been suspended.
  3. Only one bell won’t ring? Test it with its manual button. If the striker does not move, the fault is most likely in its coil, its wiring or its relay.
  4. The striker moves, but the sound is weak or muffled? It needs oiling, or a new rubber pad and spring.
  5. Only the hours don’t strike? Check whether the hour strike has been switched off or whether quiet hours are active.
  6. A bell with a swing motor won’t move? There may be a fault in the motor or in its relay.

Do not open electrical panels (230V). If you cannot find the cause, call us on +30 210 555 0700 and tell us the model of the unit and what you see on the display. Detailed troubleshooting guide.

Can I ring my church bells over Wi-Fi or from my phone?

Yes. How depends on the unit:

  • GM-870I, GM-3800TSI and Smart Bells: full control over the internet from a phone, tablet or computer — start melodies, view and change the day’s schedules, even when you are away from the church. The bell tower needs internet access (a router, or a 4G router with a SIM card).
  • MELODY, MELODIO 300/400 and older models: we add a small Wi-Fi module near the church’s router; from an app on your phone you can start up to 7 preset ringing patterns and STOP.
  • Without internet: a long-range remote control.

Tell us which model you have (it is printed on the front panel) so that we can recommend the right upgrade. Control from your phone.
