User guide: MELODIO 300 / 400

A black box (25×21×10 cm) with an antenna on top, a blue screen that reads «ΤΣΙΤΟΥΡΑΣ – ΜΕΛΩΔΙΟ 300» or «ΤΣΙΤΟΥΡΑΣ – ΜΕΛΩΔΙΟ 400» (Tsitouras – Melodio 300 / 400), a round knob that you turn and press (marked «ΕΠΙΛΟΓΗ / ΚΑΤΑΧΩΡΗΣΗ», select / enter) and 8 round buttons 1–8; the 300 has a black front, a red knob and a small key-ring remote with buttons A, B, C, D (D is red), while the 400 has a red front with a «WiFi ready» mark, a black knob and a long, light-coloured remote with an antenna and buttons 1–8.

Ask the digital assistant

What the buttons and the round knob do

  1. Next to the screen there is a round knob. When you TURN it (◄ ►) the choice changes — that is why it says «ΕΠΙΛΟΓΗ» (select).
  2. When you PRESS it, you confirm what is shown on the screen — that is why it says «ΚΑΤΑΧΩΡΗΣΗ» (enter). The booklet also calls it the “central button”.
  3. Below the screen are the 8 buttons 1–8. Each button holds one saved melody; with one press it rings straight away.
  4. To enter the menu, press the round knob once.
  5. The menu has: «ΕΠΙΛΟΓΕΣ» (options), «ΡΥΘΜΙΣΕΙΣ» (settings), «ΝΕΑ ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑ» (new melody) and EXIT. Turning the knob takes you from one to the next; pressing it opens it.
  6. «ΕΠΙΛΟΓΕΣ» = play a melody from the list, melody details, save to a button 1–8, manual operation. «ΡΥΘΜΙΣΕΙΣ» = speed and repetitions (duration). «ΝΕΑ ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑ» = record your own melody.
  7. To exit, turn the knob until you see EXIT and press it.

The start screen reads «ΤΣΙΤΟΥΡΑΣ – ΜΕΛΩΔΙΟ 300 – ΤΗΛ. +30 210 5550 700 – www.bells.gr» (Tsitouras – Melodio 300 – Tel.), with 400 instead of 300 on the 400. The 300 and the 400 are operated in exactly the same way; they differ only in the remote control and Wi-Fi.

Ring a saved melody now (buttons 1–8)

  1. Check the «ΜΝΗΜΕΣ» (memories) page (at the end of the instruction booklet) to see which melody each button 1–8 holds.
  2. Press the button (1 to 8) of the melody you want, once.
  3. The bells ring that button’s melody straight away.
  4. You can also start the same melody from the remote control or from your phone (if you have Wi-Fi).

If you want a melody that is not on a button, see “Ring any melody from the list”.

Ring any melody from the list

  1. Press the round knob once. You enter the menu.
  2. Press it once more. You enter «ΕΠΙΛΟΓΕΣ» (options); the first option is «ΠΛΗΚΤΡΟΛΟΓΙΟ» (keypad).
  3. Turn the knob one position to the right, to «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑ» (melody).
  4. Choose the number of the melody you want, from the «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΕΣ» (melodies) list in the booklet, and press the knob: «ΚΑΤΑΧΩΡΗΣΗ» (enter).
  5. Turn right until you see «ΑΝΑΠΑΡΑΓΩΓΗ» (playback = play the melody now) and press the knob.
  6. The bells ring the melody you chose.
  7. To exit, turn to EXIT and press.

In the same menu, «ΣΤΟΙΧΕΙΑ» (details) shows information about the melody (repetitions, speed).

⚠ Choose a melody for as many bells as your church has — in the list, the melodies are grouped by number of bells.

Stop a melody that is ringing

  1. MELODIO 300 with remote control: press the red button D (STOP).
  2. MELODIO 400 with remote control: one of the 8 buttons is STOP. The booklet does not say which one; if you do not know, ask the company and make a note of it.
  3. With your phone (if you have Wi-Fi): tap the STOP button in the app.
  4. If you have neither a remote control nor Wi-Fi: the instruction booklet does not describe a STOP button on the front panel — contact the company.

For the MELODIO 2000 the booklet does not describe how to stop a melody; if you set the duration to 00:00 the melody rings continuously, so use a normal duration.

Change the melody on a button 1–8

  1. Press the round knob once (menu).
  2. Press it once more: «ΕΠΙΛΟΓΕΣ» (options).
  3. Turn the knob one position to the right, to «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑ» (melody).
  4. Choose the number of the new melody and press the knob: «ΚΑΤΑΧΩΡΗΣΗ» (enter).
  5. Turn right again (the booklet says 2 positions) until you see «ΑΠΟΘΗΚΕΥΣΗ» (save) and press the knob.
  6. The screen reads «ΑΠΟΘΗΚΕΥΣΗ ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑΣ ΣΤΙΣ ΜΝΗΜΕΣ 1 ΕΩΣ 8» (save melody to memories 1 to 8).
  7. Press the button 1–8 where you want the melody to go. From now on, that button plays the new melody.
  8. Write the new melody on the «ΜΝΗΜΕΣ» (memories) page of the booklet, so that you remember it.

On the MELODIO 300, the remote control buttons A, B, C play memories 6, 7, 8 — if you change those buttons, what the remote control plays changes too. The same applies to the buttons on your phone (Wi-Fi), which start saved memories.

Melody speed and duration

  1. Press the round knob once (menu).
  2. Turn one position to the right, to «ΡΥΘΜΙΣΕΙΣ» (settings), and press the knob.
  3. In «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑ» (melody), choose the melody’s number and press the knob: «ΚΑΤΑΧΩΡΗΣΗ» (enter).
  4. Turn to «ΤΑΧΥΤΗΤΑ» (speed): this sets how fast the melody rings.
  5. Turn to «ΕΠΑΝΑΛΗΨΕΙΣ» (repetitions): this sets the duration, i.e. how many times the melody repeats.
  6. Turn to «ΑΠΟΘΗΚΕΥΣΗ» (save) and press the knob to keep the changes.
  7. Turn to EXIT and press to exit.

You can see the current values in «ΕΠΙΛΟΓΕΣ» (options) → «ΣΤΟΙΧΕΙΑ» (details): repetitions, speed.

⚠ The booklet shows only the order of the menu — it does not say exactly how the value is changed or what the limits are. If you are not sure, contact the company before you change anything.

Record your own new melody

  1. Press the round knob once (menu).
  2. Turn 2 positions to the right, to «ΝΕΑ ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑ» (new melody), and press the knob.
  3. In «ΘΕΣΗ ΜΝΗΜΗΣ» (memory position), choose the number where the melody will be recorded — preferably a number marked «ΚΕΝΗ» (empty) in the list — and press the knob.
  4. Turn one position to the right, to «ΕΓΓΡΑΦΗ» (record), and press. The screen reads: «ΕΓΓΡΑΦΗ ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑΣ – ΓΙΑ ΕΓΓΡΑΦΗ ΠΑΤΗΣΤΕ ΤΟ (1) – ΓΙΑ ΑΚΥΡΩΣΗ ΠΑΤΗΣΤΕ ΤΟ (8)» (record melody – press (1) to record – press (8) to cancel).
  5. Press button 1 to start (or button 8 to cancel).
  6. A countdown 4–3–2–1 follows. As soon as it ends, ring the new melody.
  7. When you have finished, press the round knob. The melody has been saved.

Free «ΚΕΝΗ» positions in the standard list: MELODIO 300 → 188–200, MELODIO 400 → 189–200 (check your own booklet). The booklet does not describe which buttons you use to ring the bells during recording — if you need help, contact the company.

⚠ CAUTION: if you choose a number that already has a melody and press 1, the old melody is lost for good and replaced by the new one.

Manual bell operation: «ΠΛΗΚΤΡΟΛΟΓΙΟ» (keypad)

  1. Press the round knob once (menu).
  2. Press it once more: «ΕΠΙΛΟΓΕΣ» (options).
  3. The first option is «ΠΛΗΚΤΡΟΛΟΓΙΟ» (keypad) = «ΧΕΙΡΟΚΙΝΗΤΗ ΛΕΙΤΟΥΡΓΕΙΑ ΚΑΜΠΑΝΩΝ» (manual bell operation). Press the knob to enter.
  4. To exit, turn to EXIT and press.

⚠ The booklet does not describe in detail how you ring the bells in this mode — if you need help, contact the company.

Remote control

  1. MELODIO 300 (small key-ring remote with 4 buttons): A = memory button 6, B = memory 7, C = memory 8, D (red) = STOP.
  2. Press A, B or C to ring the melody of that memory; press D to stop it.
  3. MELODIO 400 (long remote with buttons 1–8): 8 channels — 7 buttons start saved melodies and 1 button is STOP.
  4. The MELODIO 400 remote control has a 9V battery.
  5. What each button plays depends on the controller’s memories; to change it, change the melody of the memory (see “Change the melody on a button 1–8”).

On the MELODIO 300 the remote control is optional and long-range (up to 300 m). For the MELODIO 400 the booklet does not say which button is STOP and which memories the other 7 play.

MELODIO with Wi-Fi: Ring a melody from your phone

  1. On your phone or tablet, open the app that the technician set up for the Wi-Fi controller (if it asks, log in to your account).
  2. You will see the memory buttons (e.g. M1, M2… and STOP — or the names of the melodies, if you have entered them).
  3. Tap the button of the melody you want. For about 1 second it changes from OFF to ON — this means the melody has started.
  4. To stop it, tap STOP.
  5. MELODIO 300: 3 melodies + STOP. MELODIO 400: 7 melodies + STOP.

Several phones can control the bells, but all with the same account (same email and password). If they log in at the same time, whoever logged in first has priority — the others do not see the buttons.

⚠ You need Wi-Fi near the bell controller. The Wi-Fi controller is optional — if you do not have one, contact the company.

Wi-Fi app: Show the melody’s name on the buttons

  1. On the app’s home page, tap inside the box with the buttons. The buttons appear larger.
  2. Tap the “3 dots” at the top right.
  3. Choose «Όνομα» (name).
  4. For each button (channel), type the name you want — e.g. the name of the memory’s melody.
  5. Tap save at the top right.

This way you do not need to remember which melody is on each memory. If you change the melody on a MELODIO button, change the name here too.

Wi-Fi app: Automatic ringing at a time you choose

  1. In the app, tap inside the box of the group that has the melody’s button.
  2. At the bottom left, tap «χρονόμετρο» (timer).
  3. At the top right, tap «+».
  4. Choose the time you want the melody to start.
  5. Repeat: choose whether it rings once, every day or on which days, and tap save at the top right.
  6. «Ενέργεια» (action): must always be ON.
  7. Channel: choose the melody’s button and tap save at the top right.
  8. Tap save at the top right again, and then the arrow at the top left to go back to the home screen.

These instructions come from the document of the 8-channel Wi-Fi controller; the words in the app may change with its updates.

⚠ This applies only if your controller has the optional Wi-Fi controller and the phone/router is working. The MELODIO 300/400 booklets do not describe a clock or a time schedule on the controller itself.

Wi-Fi app: See the automatic ringings or pause one

  1. In the app, tap inside the box of the group that has the melody’s button.
  2. At the bottom left, tap «χρονόμετρο» (timer). All the schedules you have set appear.
  3. To the right of each schedule there is an on/off switch. Tap it once to pause it.
  4. When the switch points left, the schedule is off; when it points right, it is active. To make it active again, tap it again.
  5. Tap the arrow at the top left to go back.

Wi-Fi app: Delete or change an automatic ringing

  1. In the app, tap inside the box of the group that has the melody’s button.
  2. At the bottom left, tap «χρονόμετρο» (timer).
  3. Tap the schedule you want to delete.
  4. At the bottom of the screen tap «Διαγραφή» (delete) and then «confirm» to confirm.
  5. Tap the arrow at the top left to go back.
  6. To change the time or the melody: after deleting the old one, create a new schedule with the right time/melody (see “Automatic ringing at a time you choose”).

The instructions do not describe how to edit an existing schedule; that is why deleting it and creating a new one is suggested. If you just want it not to ring for a while, see “pause one”.

Wi-Fi controller: Connect to the phone and the network (e.g. new router)

  1. Place the Wi-Fi controller near the router: it is the small white box marked «ΤΣΙΤΟΥΡΑΣ Wi-Fi» (Tsitouras Wi-Fi). The phone must be connected to a 2.4G Wi-Fi network.
  2. Install on the phone the app that the company recommended to you, and create an account with your email and your own password.
  3. On the controller, press and hold the L4 button for 5 seconds, until the small light keeps blinking “twice – pause”.
  4. In the app, tap «+» at the top and then «προσθήκη συσκευής» (add device).
  5. Type your Wi-Fi password and tap «επόμενο» (next).
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen until the connection is complete.
  7. If it fails, check that the Wi-Fi password is correct and that the network is 2.4G; if it still does not work, contact the company.

After connecting the 4-channel controller: tap inside the channels box → “3 dots” at the top right → «ρυθμίσεις αργής κίνησης» (inching settings) → enable all 4 channels → save at the top right. If the buttons do not behave correctly, contact the company.

⚠ Usually the technician makes the connection during installation. These steps are for the 4-channel controller (MELODIO 300). On the 8-channel controller (7 melodies + STOP) the connection is made with buttons on the circuit boards inside the box — do not open it, ask for a technician. The connection is made once; after a power cut it reconnects by itself.

It doesn’t ring from the phone / the buttons in the app are faded

  1. If the group of buttons in the app is faded and there is an exclamation mark on the Wi-Fi signal, the Wi-Fi controller is not connected to the network.
  2. Check that the controller has power (its power adapter is plugged in) and that the church’s Wi-Fi is working.
  3. After a power cut the controller reconnects by itself — no new connection is needed. When it is connected, the buttons look bold and the signal strength is shown next to them.
  4. If the signal has few bars, the controller must be moved closer to the router.
  5. If you see no buttons at all while someone else is logged in with the same account, wait — whoever logged in first has priority.
  6. If it is not fixed, contact the company.

Wi-Fi app: Log out for safety

  1. In the app, tap «προφίλ» (profile).
  2. Tap the “little circle” at the top right.
  3. Choose «αποσύνδεση» (log out). Next time you will need your account and password to get in.

This way, if a stranger picks up the phone, they cannot ring the bells. If you prefer to go straight to the buttons, you can choose not to log out. According to its instructions, the MELODIO itself has no keypad lock.

Where to find the melody list and what each button holds

  1. Open the instruction booklet at the «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΕΣ» (melodies) pages.
  2. MELODIO 300/400: the melodies are numbered 1–200 and grouped by number of bells: «1 ΚΑΜΠΑΝΑ» (1 bell), «2 ΚΑΜΠΑΝΕΣ» (2 bells) … «8 ΚΑΜΠΑΝΕΣ» (8 bells). Next to each one it says how many bells it uses and how long it lasts.
  3. Choose melodies for as many bells as your church has.
  4. The «ΚΕΝΗ» (empty) positions at the end of the list are free for your own recordings.
  5. On the last pages, «ΜΝΗΜΕΣ» (memories), it says which melody is on each button 1–8.
  6. MELODIO 2000: list 1–99 on the page «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΕΣ ΜΕΛΩΔΙΟ 2000» (Melodio 2000 melodies), with the number of bells next to each one, and the page «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΕΣ Μ1 = …» (melodies M1 = …) for the memory buttons.
  7. The instruction booklets of the MELODIO 300, 400 and 2000 are also on the website www.bells.gr.

Some controllers have a special list (e.g. 230 melodies, or a booklet for 3 bells only) — always use your own booklet. If you have lost it, contact the company.

Funeral toll (funeral, Holy Friday)

  1. Check the «ΜΝΗΜΕΣ» (memories) page of the booklet to see whether the funeral toll is already on a button (often, but not always, it is on button 8).
  2. If it is, press that button. On the MELODIO 300, if it is on memory 8, it also rings with button C on the remote control.
  3. If it is not, find «ΠΕΝΘΙΜΟ» (funeral toll) in the list for your bells. MELODIO 300/400 (standard list): 7 (1 bell), 22 or 23 (2 bells), 44 or 45 (3 bells; 45 is «ΠΕΝΘΙΜΟ ΜΕΓ. ΠΑΡΑΣΚΕΥΗΣ», the Holy Friday funeral toll), 80 or 81 (4), 122 or 123 (5), 141 (6).
  4. Play it straight away from the menu: «ΕΠΙΛΟΓΕΣ» (options) → «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑ» (melody) → «ΑΝΑΠΑΡΑΓΩΓΗ» (playback). Or put it on a button so that you have it ready.
  5. MELODIO 2000: the funeral tolls are 1–12 (depending on the bells) and 84, «ΠΕΝΘ.ΑΝΔΡ.» (funeral toll for a man); they are played with E1 «ΑΜΕΣΗ ΕΚΤΕΛΕΣΗ» (play now).
  6. To stop it (MELODIO 300/400): STOP on the remote control or in the app.

⚠ The numbers are from the standard list; if your own booklet has different numbering, your booklet applies.

Feasts, Easter, patronal feast, wedding, the Bishop’s visit

  1. Find in the «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΕΣ» (melodies) list the festive melody for your bells — e.g. «ΑΝΑΣΤΑΣΙΜΟ» (Resurrection peal), «ΠΑΝΗΓΥΡΙΚΟ» (patronal feast peal), «ΧΑΡΜΟΣΥΝΟ» (festive peal), «ΔΟΞΟΛΟΓΙΑ» (Doxology), «ΔΕΣΠΟΤΙΚΟ» (Bishop’s peal), «ΤΡΙΓΩΝΑ ΚΑΛΑΝΤΑ» (Trigona Kalanta, a Greek carol), «ΓΑΜΗΛΙΟ ΕΜΒΑΤΗΡΙΟ» (wedding march).
  2. For a single time: play it from the menu: «ΕΠΙΛΟΓΕΣ» (options) → «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑ» (melody) → «ΑΝΑΠΑΡΑΓΩΓΗ» (playback).
  3. If you will need it for the whole season, put it on a button 1–8 (see “Change the melody on a button 1–8”).
  4. If you want it to ring by itself on a specific day and time: on the MELODIO 300/400 this can be done only from the Wi-Fi app, with «χρονόμετρο» (timer) and «μία φορά» (once); on the new touch-screen controller, with the «ΕΞΑΙΡΕΤΙΚΟ» (special) programme.
  5. If you want a melody that does not exist (e.g. a local one), you can record your own in a «ΚΕΝΗ» (empty) position or contact the company.

Standard list, MELODIO 300/400: «ΑΝΑΣΤΑΣΙΜΟ» 96 (5 bells), 133–134 (6), 152 (7); «ΔΕΣΠΟΤΙΚΟ» 98, 109–112 (5); «ΤΡΙΓΩΝΑ ΚΑΛΑΝΤΑ» 125 (5); «ΕΝ ΤΑΦΩ» (In the tomb) 183 (8); «ΓΑΜΗΛΙΟ ΕΜΒΑΤΗΡΙΟ» 185 (8); on the 400 also «ΑΓΙΑ ΝΥΧΤΑ» (Silent Night), right after 187. MELODIO 2000: «ΑΝΑΣΤΑΣΙΜΟ» 71, 86, 87, 90; JINGLBELL 67; «Η ΠΑΡΘΕΝΟΣ» (Today the Virgin) 70.

Power cut

  1. According to their technical specifications, the MELODIO 300 and 400 are not affected by power cuts.
  2. The Wi-Fi controller (if there is one) reconnects to the network by itself as soon as the power comes back — no new connection is needed.
  3. If something does not work after the power cut (e.g. the screen is off or it does not ring), contact the company.
  4. For the MELODIO 2000 and the new touch-screen controller, the instructions say nothing about power cuts — contact the company if you have a problem.

Change the time / date / summer time (MELODIO 300, 400, 2000)

  1. The instruction booklets of the MELODIO 300, 400 and 2000 have no clock and no time/date setting — these controllers ring when you press a button, the remote control or the phone.
  2. If the bells ring by themselves through the Wi-Fi app, the time of each ringing is set in the app’s «χρονόμετρο» (timer): delete the old schedule and create a new one with the right time.
  3. If you have the new touch-screen controller, see “New controller: Change the time” and “Summer / winter time”.
  4. If the bells ring automatically from another controller or a bell tower clock, contact the company.

It doesn’t ring / something is wrong (MELODIO 300 / 400)

  1. Check whether the screen is on: the start screen reads «ΤΣΙΤΟΥΡΑΣ» / «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΟ» (Tsitouras / Melodio). If it is off, contact the company.
  2. Try from the front panel: press a button 1–8.
  3. If it rings from the front panel but not from the remote control: on the MELODIO 400 the remote control has a 9V battery — try a new one.
  4. If it does not ring from the phone, check whether the buttons in the app are faded with an exclamation mark (see “It doesn’t ring from the phone”).
  5. If the melody is too fast/slow or too short, check «ΤΑΧΥΤΗΤΑ» (speed) and «ΕΠΑΝΑΛΗΨΕΙΣ» (repetitions) in «ΡΥΘΜΙΣΕΙΣ» (settings).
  6. If the melody is for more bells than you have, choose another one from the right group in the list.
  7. If a bell does not ring or rings weakly, do not open the controller — the electromagnetic strikers and the wiring are a job for the technician. Contact the company.

Maintenance of the electromagnetic strikers (oiling)

  1. Every 3 or 4 months, oil the plungers of the electromagnetic strikers with machine oil.

⚠ This work is done up in the bell tower. If access is not safe or you are not sure, call the company to have the technician do it.
