User guide
User guide: MELODY
Metal box with a light-green front panel. At the top right it says MELODY, with a drawing of a bell and a clock. At the top left, in a grey frame, are the display, the white buttons 0–9, the red arrows ▲▼, labelled «ΕΠΙΛΟΓΗ ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑΣ» (melody selection), and the green buttons + − ESC ↵. On the right, from top to bottom: a white button with an arrow, START, the red STOP and a red button with a small light next to the word POWER. At the bottom there are two rows of buttons: M1–M10 and, below them, 8 buttons with a red bell, together with A and B. Some units also have an antenna on top.

Play a bell ringing now (by hand)
- Press the red button with the small light, next to the word POWER, to turn on the display.
- If the ringing you want is written on the «ΜΝΗΜΕΣ» (memories) card next to a button (M1 to M10, A or B), press that button and the ringing will start.
- For any other melody, type its three-digit number from the «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΕΣ» (melodies) list with the white buttons 0–9 (e.g. 0, 6, 6 for 066).
- As soon as you press the 3rd digit, the display shows the name of the melody at the top and how long it will last at the bottom. Check that it is the right one.
- You can also search with the red arrows ▲ ▼, labelled «ΕΠΙΛΟΓΗ ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑΣ» (melody selection), which go through the melodies 000 to 202 in order.
- If you want a different duration, change it with the green + and − buttons.
- Press START to start the ringing.
- To stop it earlier, press the red STOP button.
Shortcut from the manual: if the number starts with zeros, type only the last digits and press ESC (e.g. 1, 2, ESC = 012). The «ΚΑΜΠΑΝΕΣ» (bells) column of the list shows how many bells each melody is for; choose one that suits your church. If the unit also drives a tower clock and M1–M10 do not start straight away, see “Make the M1–M10 buttons start immediately”.
⚠ The 8 buttons with the red bell (bottom row) are not for playing a melody. The manual describes them for composing your own melody.
Stop the ringing
- Press the red STOP button on the unit (on the right, below START). The «ΜΝΗΜΕΣ» (memories) card says: «Με το STOP σταματούν όλα» (STOP stops everything).
- If you have the phone app (Wi‑Fi), you can also press the STOP button in the app.
- If you have a remote control, it also has a button for stopping. Ask the company which one it is and make a note of it.
- The Holy Friday funeral toll (006 or 019) does not stop by itself, only with STOP. This is normal.
The «ΜΝΗΜΕΣ» (memories) card that comes with the unit says «Με το STOP σταματούν όλα» (STOP stops everything).
⚠ On the «ΕΒΔΟΜΑΔΙΑΙΟ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ» (weekly programme) or «ΜΗΝΙΑΙΟ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ» (monthly programme) screens, STOP switches off all the automatic programmes at once. If the automatic programmes no longer ring after a STOP, check that they are active — Set: On, or «ΕΝΤΟΣ» (on) — or contact the company.
The display is off or shows only a large clock
- Press the red button with the small light, next to the word POWER (the manual calls it LIGHT).
- The display lights up again and shows the melody name, the time, the date and the duration.
- If the display shows jumbled letters, press the same button again. The manual gives this button for exactly this case.
- If the display does not light up at all: please contact Tsitouras Bros Co. (Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00 Greek time) on +30 210 555 0700 or by email at info@bells.gr.
This is normal: after 1 minute the display shows only a large clock, and after another 1 minute it switches off, to save power. Any button turns it on again, but the manual recommends the button with the small light. The «ΜΝΗΜΕΣ» (memories) card says «Με το POWER ανοίγει η οθόνη» (POWER turns on the display) and means this red button next to the word POWER.
What the display shows (CL, speed, etc.)
- Press the red button with the small light to turn on the display. It has 4 lines.
- Line 1: the name of the melody that is selected.
- Line 2: the time now (hours:minutes:seconds). If the unit drives a tower clock, CL is also shown here: how many minutes the tower clock still has to “run” to be corrected.
- Line 3: the date (day/month/year). After a power cut or a time change you may also see CL1 here, which also counts towards correcting the clock.
- Line 4: the duration of the melody (hours:minutes:seconds), the day of the week and, at the end, a number from 01 to 50, which is the speed of the melody.
- After 1 minute the display shows only a large clock, and after another 1 minute it switches off. This is normal.
CL and CL1 appear only when the MELODY drives a tower clock. When CL reaches 0, CL1 is added to it, and this goes on until both are 0.
Change the melody on a memory button M1–M10
- Press the red button with the small light to turn on the display.
- Using the white buttons 0–9, type the three-digit number of the new melody, taken from the «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΕΣ» (melodies) list.
- Check the display: the top should show the name of the melody and the bottom its duration.
- Press the memory button you want (M1 to M10) and hold it down for about 2 seconds.
- When the small light above that button comes on and goes off, the melody has been saved.
- Press ESC.
- Write the new melody on the «ΜΝΗΜΕΣ» (memories) card, next to the same button.
The manual does not ask for a code for this quick save. For buttons A and B, see “Change the melody on buttons A, B”. If you also ring the bells from your phone (Wi‑Fi), the app’s M1–M7 buttons will from now on play the new melody. Change their names in the app too.
⚠ The melody the button had before is erased and the new one takes its place.
Change the duration or speed of a melody
- Press the red button with the small light to turn on the display.
- Type the three-digit number of the melody with 0–9.
- The duration is shown on the bottom line of the display (hours:minutes:seconds).
- The green + makes it longer and − makes it shorter, one second at a time, up to 59:59.
- Press START.
- While the melody is playing, the same + and − buttons change the speed. The speed number (01–50) is shown at the end of the bottom line.
In the manual, + and − are called the «ΔΙΑΡΚΕΙΑ» (duration) buttons. The manual does not say whether the new duration stays saved for next time.
Where to find the melody list and what each memory button has
- Open the MELODY instruction booklet at the «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΕΣ» (melodies) pages, after the instructions. There you will find the columns «ΑΑ» (number), «ΟΝΟΜΑΣΙΑ» (name) and «ΚΑΜΠΑΝΕΣ» (how many bells the melody is for).
- What each button M1–M10, A, B has is written on the «ΜΝΗΜΕΣ» (memories) card, at the end of the booklet or next to the unit.
- On the unit itself: press the red button with the small light and type a three-digit number. The top line of the display shows the name of the melody.
- With the red arrows ▲ ▼, labelled «ΕΠΙΛΟΓΗ ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑΣ» (melody selection), you can go through the melodies 000 to 202 in order.
- If you don’t have the booklet or the card, ask the company for them.
Examples from the list in the manual: 000 «ΡΟΛΟΙ ΕΚΚΛΗΣΙΑΣ» (church clock); 001 «ΑΔΑΜ» (Adam), 002 «ΟΡΘΡΟΣ» (Orthros), 003 «ΕΣΠΕΡΙΝΟΣ» (Vespers), 004 «ΧΑΡΜΟΣΥΝΟ» (festive peal) — for 1 bell; 006 and 019 «ΠΕΝΘΙΜΟ ΜΕΓΑΛΗΣ ΠΑΡΑΣΚΕΥΗΣ» (Holy Friday funeral toll); 045–056 funeral tolls; 364–365 «ΚΗΔΕΙΑ ΙΕΡΕΟΣ» (funeral of a priest), 366 «ΕΠΙΤΑΦΕΙΟΣ» (Epitaphios), 368 «ΚΗΔΕΙΑ» (funeral), 369–371 «ΜΝΗΜΟΣΥΝΟ» (memorial service); 530 «ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ ΑΝΕΣΤΗ» (Christ is Risen). Positions 450–499 are for swinging bells. The list is not the same on every unit: some churches have their own melodies at certain numbers. That is why you should always look at the name on the display before you press START. The «ΜΝΗΜΕΣ» cards usually have Vespers, Orthros, Doxology, festive peal, feast-day peal and Resurrection peal on M1–M10, and funeral tolls on A and B.
Change the time (the quick way for the priest)
- Press the red button with the small light to turn on the display.
- If the church has a tower clock: look at line 2 of the display. The CL reading must be 0 before you change the time. If it is not 0, the tower clock is still being corrected, so wait until it reaches 0.
- Press the white button with the arrow, above START (the manual calls it SHIFT), and enter the operator code (a code is required — contact the company).
- Press button 1.
- Type the correct time: first the hour and then the minutes, two digits each (e.g. 0, 7, 0, 5 for 07:05).
- Press ESC 2 times.
- Check the new time on line 2 of the display.
There is also a second way, from the green ↵ button (MENU), which also lets you change the date. See “Change the date”. The MELODY changes to summer/winter time by itself.
Change the date, time and day (from the menu)
- Press the red button with the small light to turn on the display.
- Press the green ↵ button (bottom left, next to 0; the manual calls it MENU) and enter the code (a code is required — contact the company).
- Press 1 «ΡΥΘΜΙΣΕΙΣ ΡΟΛΟΓΙΟΥ» (clock settings) and then 1 «ΡΥΘΜΙΣΗ ΩΡΑΣ» (time setting).
- One of the readings is flashing. Change it with the green + and −.
- Use the red arrows ▲ ▼ to move to the next reading, in this order: seconds, minutes, hour, day, month, year, name of the day.
- Press ESC 3 times to exit.
- Check the time (line 2) and the date (line 3) on the display.
Leap years and summer/winter time are worked out automatically, as long as the time and date are correct.
Summer / winter time
- You don’t need to do anything: the MELODY changes to summer and winter time by itself.
- After the change, press the red button with the small light and check the time on line 2 of the display.
- If the time is wrong (e.g. by one hour), correct it with “Change the time”. The automatic change only works when the time and date are correct.
- If the unit drives a tower clock, after the time change you will see CL and CL1 on the display: the tower clock is correcting itself.
Time from satellite (GPS)
This setting is done by our technician.
When a GPS module is fitted and switched on, the MELODY sets its own time every day at 04:10. It can also show the number of satellites, the longitude/latitude and the altitude.
⚠ The manual warns not to change the «ΔΟΡΥΦΟΡΙΚΟ» (satellite) setting.
The unit’s clock runs a little fast or slow
This setting is done by our technician.
With a value of 0 there is no correction. The value can also be negative.
Correct the tower clock (by entering the time it shows)
- Look at the tower clock and note the time it shows now.
- Press the red button with the small light to turn on the display.
- Press the white button with the arrow, above START (SHIFT), and enter the operator code (a code is required — contact the company).
- Press button 2.
- Type the time shown by the tower clock: first the hour and then the minutes, two digits each.
- Press ESC 2 times.
- The MELODY compares this time with its own and corrects the clock by itself. On line 2 of the display, CL shows how many minutes of correction are still left.
The tower clock is corrected according to the MELODY’s time, so first check that the MELODY’s time is correct. The same setting is also in the settings menu: MENU → 1 «ΡΥΘΜΙΣΕΙΣ ΡΟΛΟΓΙΟΥ» (clock settings) → 2 «ΡΥΘΜΙΣΗ ΡΟΛΟΓΙΟΥ Α» (clock setting A).
Correct the tower clock by a few minutes (CL)
- Press the red button with the small light to turn on the display.
- Press the white button with the arrow, above START (SHIFT), and enter the operator code (a code is required — contact the company).
- Press button 3. The CL reading shows the minutes of the correction.
- If the tower clock is slow, set a positive number with the green + / − (e.g. CL = 2: it will move forward 2 minutes).
- If it is fast, set a negative number (e.g. CL = −3: it will stand still for 3 minutes and then carry on normally).
- Press ESC 2 times. The correction starts.
To set CL back to zero, press START or STOP on the same screen. The same setting is also in the settings menu: MENU → 1 → 3 «ΡΥΘΜΙΣΗ ΡΟΛΟΓΙΟΥ Μ» (clock setting M).
Connect and enable the tower clock
This setting is done by our technician.
Check the automatic programme
- Press the red button with the small light to turn on the display.
- Press the green ↵ button (MENU, next to 0) and enter the code (a code is required — contact the company).
- Press 2 «ΑΥΤΟΜΑΤΙΣΜΟΙ» (automation) and then 3 «ΕΒΔΟΜΑΔΙΑΙΟ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ» (weekly programme).
- Each programme (Alarm) shows: in the 1st position the number of the melody, then the hour and minutes, Set (On = active, Off = inactive), Day (days) and Month (months).
- Use the red arrows ▲ ▼ to move from position to position. If you only want to look, don’t press + / − or any numbers.
- Press ESC 3 times to exit.
- For the programmes on specific dates, go in again with MENU → 2 → 4 «ΜΗΝΙΑΙΟ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ» (monthly programme).
Day: 1 = Monday … 7 = Sunday, written “from–to” (e.g. 1–6 = Monday to Saturday, 7–7 = Sunday only). Month: 01–12 = all year round.
⚠ Don’t press STOP on this screen: it switches off all the programmes at once.
New automatic ringing in the weekly programme
- Press the red button with the small light, then the green ↵ (MENU), and enter the code (a code is required — contact the company).
- Press 2 «ΑΥΤΟΜΑΤΙΣΜΟΙ» (automation) and then 3 «ΕΒΔΟΜΑΔΙΑΙΟ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ» (weekly programme).
- Go to a programme (Alarm 1 to 15) that is not in use, i.e. one that has Set: Off.
- In the 1st position, type the three-digit number of the melody with 0–9.
- Use the red arrows ▲ ▼ to go to the hour and set it with the green + and −. Do the same for the minutes.
- Go to Set and change it to On with + / −.
- With + / −, set Day (e.g. 1–6 = Monday to Saturday, 7–7 = Sunday only) and Month (01–12 = all year round).
- Press ESC 3 times to exit.
1 is Monday and 7 is Sunday. The manual does not say which button takes you from one Alarm to the next; if you have trouble, contact the company. For a specific date (feast day, patronal festival) use the «ΜΗΝΙΑΙΟ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ» (monthly programme).
⚠ The programme rings only if Set is On. Don’t press STOP on this screen, because it switches off all the programmes.
Change the melody of an automatic ringing
- Press the red button with the small light, then the green ↵ (MENU), and enter the code (a code is required — contact the company).
- Press 2 «ΑΥΤΟΜΑΤΙΣΜΟΙ» (automation) and then 3 «ΕΒΔΟΜΑΔΙΑΙΟ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ» (weekly programme), or 4 «ΜΗΝΙΑΙΟ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ» (monthly programme) if it is a programme for a date.
- Go to the programme (Alarm or Timer) you want to change.
- Use the red arrows ▲ ▼ to go to the 1st position (melody).
- Type the new three-digit melody number with 0–9.
- Make sure the programme stays active: Set: On, or «ΕΝΤΟΣ» (on).
- Press ESC 3 times to exit.
For programmes you have made in the phone app (Wi‑Fi), the document describes only adding and deleting. For a different melody, delete the programme and make a new one.
Switch off an automatic ringing
- Press the red button with the small light, then the green ↵ (MENU), and enter the code (a code is required — contact the company).
- Press 2 «ΑΥΤΟΜΑΤΙΣΜΟΙ» (automation) and then 3 «ΕΒΔΟΜΑΔΙΑΙΟ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ» (weekly programme), or 4 «ΜΗΝΙΑΙΟ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ» (monthly programme) if it is a programme for a date.
- Go to the programme you want to stop.
- Weekly: use the red arrows ▲ ▼ to go to Set and change it to Off with the green + / −.
- Monthly: in the Timer position type its number (e.g. 01) and change it with + / − so that it no longer says «ΕΝΤΟΣ» (on).
- If you just want it not to ring on some days, change Day (e.g. 1–5 = Monday to Friday).
- Press ESC 3 times to exit.
A programme with Set: Off does not ring, but keeps its settings so you can switch it on again. Day is written “from–to” (1 = Monday, 7 = Sunday).
⚠ STOP on this screen switches off ALL the programmes together. Press it only if that is what you want.
Ringing on a specific date (feast day, patronal festival, Easter, New Year)
- Press the red button with the small light, then the green ↵ (MENU), and enter the code (a code is required — contact the company).
- Press 2 «ΑΥΤΟΜΑΤΙΣΜΟΙ» (automation) and then 4 «ΜΗΝΙΑΙΟ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ» (monthly programme).
- The cursor is on Timer. Type its number with 0–9 (e.g. 01) and use the green + / − to set it to «ΕΝΤΟΣ» (on).
- Use the red arrows ▲ ▼ to go to «ΕΝΑΡΞΗ» (start) and type the time it will ring with 0–9.
- In «ΗΜΕΡΑ» (day) type the day and in «ΜΗΝΑΣ» (month) the month, with 0–9 (e.g. 15 and 08 for 15 August).
- Finally, go back to the 1st position and type the three-digit number of the melody with 0–9.
- Make sure it says «ΕΝΤΟΣ» and press ESC 3 times to exit.
Up to 10 dates fit. Example from the manual: New Year, 01/01 at 00:00. The programme has only a day and a month, not a year. For feasts whose date changes every year (e.g. Easter), check and correct the date every year. For Easter, many «ΜΝΗΜΕΣ» (memories) cards have «ΑΝΑΣΤΑΣΙΜΟ» (Resurrection peal) on one of the buttons, so you can also play it by hand.
⚠ To ring, it must say «ΕΝΤΟΣ» (on). Don’t press STOP on this screen, because it switches off all the programmes.
Funeral toll for a funeral or memorial service
- Press the red button with the small light to turn on the display.
- Look at the «ΜΝΗΜΕΣ» (memories) card. If a button says «ΠΕΝΘΙΜΟ ΚΗΔΕΙΑΣ» (funeral toll) — often B — press it and the ringing will start.
- Otherwise, type the number of a funeral toll to suit your bells, e.g. 045 (1 bell), 050 (2), 021 (3), 051 (4), 052 (5), 054 (6).
- Look at the top line of the display: it should say «ΠΕΝΘΙΜΟ» (funeral toll), or «ΚΗΔΕΙΑ» (funeral) / «ΜΝΗΜΟΣΥΝΟ» (memorial service). If it says something else, don’t press START, because the list on your unit is different.
- If you like, change the duration with the green + / −.
- Press START.
- To stop it, press STOP.
Funeral tolls in the manual’s list: 045–049 for 1 bell, 050 for 2, 021 for 3, 051 for 4, 052–053 for 5, 054–056 for 6, 247 for 8. For special occasions: 364–365 «ΚΗΔΕΙΑ ΙΕΡΕΟΣ» (funeral of a priest), 368 «ΚΗΔΕΙΑ» (funeral), 369–371 «ΜΝΗΜΟΣΥΝΟ» (memorial service); for these, the list does not give a number of bells. Memory cards often have «ΠΕΝΘΙΜΟ ΚΗΔΕΙΑΣ (5 λεπτά)» (funeral toll, 5 minutes). The numbers may be different on your unit.
Holy Friday funeral toll (all day)
- Press the red button with the small light to turn on the display.
- Press the memory button that the «ΜΝΗΜΕΣ» (memories) card marks «ΠΕΝΘΙΜΟ Μ. ΕΒΔΟΜΑΔΑΣ» (Holy Week funeral toll) or «Μ. ΠΑΡΑΣΚΕΥΗΣ» (Holy Friday) — often A. The ringing starts.
- Or type 006 (for 1 or 2 bells) or 019 (for 3 bells), check that the display says «ΠΕΝΘΙΜΟ ΜΕΓΑΛΗΣ ΠΑΡΑΣΚΕΥΗΣ» (Holy Friday funeral toll) and press START.
- The toll rings for 15 minutes without a break and then pauses for 15 minutes, so that the strikers can cool down. Then it starts again.
- This goes on all day. To end it, press STOP.
The list also has 146–149 «Μ. ΠΑΡΑΣΚΕΥΗ» (Holy Friday) and 366 «ΕΠΙΤΑΦΕΙΟΣ» (Epitaphios), but the cycle of 15 minutes ringing / 15 minutes pause is described only for 006 and 019.
⚠ It does not stop by itself, only with STOP.
Make the M1–M10 buttons start immediately (when there is a tower clock)
- Press the red button with the small light to turn on the display.
- Press the white button with the arrow, above START (SHIFT), and enter the operator code (a code is required — contact the company).
- Press button 4 and then 4 again.
- With the green + / −, change the «ΚΟΜΒΙΑ ΑΥΤΟΜΑΤΗΣ ΕΝΑΡΞΗΣ» (auto-start buttons) setting so that it says «ΕΚΤΟΣ» (off).
- Press ESC to leave the menu.
- From now on, the M1–M10 buttons start immediately.
The manual asks for this on units that also drive a tower clock. It does not explain exactly what the setting does when it is «ΕΝΤΟΣ» (on).
Stop the clock striking the hours at night (quiet hours)
- Press the red button with the small light, then the green ↵ (MENU), and enter the code (a code is required — contact the company).
- Press 3 «ΡΥΘΜΙΣΕΙΣ ΚΑΜΠΑΝΩΝ» (bell settings) and then 1 «ΩΡΑ ΚΟΙΝΗΣ ΗΣΥΧΙΑΣ» (quiet hours).
- The display shows the hours, each with + or − in front: + means the clock strikes at that hour, − means it does not.
- Use the red arrows ▲ ▼ to go to the hour you want.
- Press the green − so that it does not strike, or + so that it strikes. You can also change it with START.
- Do the same for each night-time hour.
- Press ESC 3 times to exit.
This setting applies to the clock’s hour strikes.
Days when the clock does not strike the hours (quiet days)
- Press the red button with the small light, then the green ↵ (MENU), and enter the code (a code is required — contact the company).
- Press 3 «ΡΥΘΜΙΣΕΙΣ ΚΑΜΠΑΝΩΝ» (bell settings) and then 2 «ΗΜΕΡΑ ΚΟΙΝΗΣ ΗΣΥΧΙΑΣ» (quiet days).
- The display shows the days 1–7 (1 = Monday, 7 = Sunday), each with + or − in front.
- Use the red arrows ▲ ▼ to go to the day you want.
- Press the green − so that the clock does not strike on that day, or + so that it strikes. You can also change it with START.
- Press ESC 3 times to exit.
How the clock strikes (hours, half-hours, quarters)
This setting is done by our technician.
There are 5 ways (Mode). 00: no strikes at all. 01: full hours only (MAIN bell). 02: hours on MAIN and half-hours on MEDIA. 03: at every quarter, the hours strike on MAIN and then 1, 2 or 3 strokes on AVERAGE/MEDIA. 04: hours on MAIN and, at the quarters, 1, 2 or 3 strokes on MEDIA.
Write your own melody from the keypad
- Press the red button with the small light to turn on the display.
- With 0–9, type the number of the position where the melody will be stored, from 043 to 449. Choose a position that says «ΚΕΝΗ» (empty) or «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑ ΕΓΓΡΑΦΗΣ» (recording melody), so that no other melody is lost.
- Press the white button with the arrow, above START (SHIFT). You go into “composing” and the 8 buttons with the red bell become active.
- Play the melody by pressing the bell buttons, in the order and rhythm you want.
- When you have finished, press STOP.
- To keep the melody, press START. If you don’t want to keep it, press STOP.
- To listen to it, type the same position number again and press START.
The manual is a little unclear at the end: in one place it says that STOP saves the melody, and straight after that it says that START saves it and STOP discards it. If you are not sure it was kept, contact the company. The melody’s name can be entered on the unit or from a computer. Melodies for swinging bells (450–499) are written by the installer.
⚠ Whatever was in that position is erased. If you are not sure, contact the company first.
The menu appears in another language (language selection)
- Press the red button with the small light, then the green ↵ (MENU), and enter the code (a code is required — contact the company).
- Press 4 «ΑΛΛΑΓΕΣ ΑΣΦΑΛΕΙΑΣ» (security changes) and then 1 «ΕΠΙΛΟΓΗ ΓΛΩΣΣΑΣ» (language selection).
- With the green + / −, choose Greek (or English / Italian).
- Press ESC 3 times to exit.
The menu is available in Greek, English and Italian. The numbers of the options (4, then 1) are the same in every language.
Remote control (optional)
- The remote control is long, narrow and light-coloured, with an antenna and 12 grey buttons numbered 1 to 12.
- Press the button for the ringing you want. According to the leaflet, 11 buttons start a bell ringing and 1 button stops it (STOP).
- Which button plays which melody is not written in the manual. Ask the company and note it on the «ΜΝΗΜΕΣ» (memories) card.
- To stop, press the STOP button on the remote control or STOP on the unit.
- If the remote control does not work: please contact Tsitouras Bros Co. (Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00 Greek time) on +30 210 555 0700 or by email at info@bells.gr.
It is an optional long-range system (the leaflet says 300 metres).
Ring the bells from your phone (Wi‑Fi)
- On your phone, open the Wi‑Fi control app that the company recommended to you. If it asks you to, log in to your account.
- You will see the bell buttons: usually M1 M2 M3 M4 in the top group and M5 M6 M7 STOP in the bottom one (or with the names of the melodies, if you have changed them).
- Tap the button for the ringing you want.
- The button changes from OFF to ON for 1 second. This means that the matching memory has started on the MELODY.
- To stop it, tap the STOP button.
- If the buttons look faded and there is an exclamation mark (!) on the Wi‑Fi signal, the controller is not connected. See “The Wi‑Fi app does not connect”.
The M1–M7 buttons on the phone play whatever is on memories M1–M7 of the MELODY. The Wi‑Fi controller is a small box near the router that sends the command wirelessly to the MELODY (in ideal conditions, with line of sight, up to about 1 km). The newer version of the controller shows one group with 4 buttons.
Automatic ringing from the phone app
- In the app, tap inside the frame of the group where the melody is.
- At the bottom left, choose «χρονόμετρο» (timer).
- At the top right, tap «+».
- Choose the time you want the melody to start.
- Under Repeat, choose whether it will play once, every day or only on certain days, and tap save at the top right.
- «Ενέργεια» (action) must always be ON.
- Under Channel, choose the melody (M1–M7) and tap save at the top right.
- Tap save at the top right again, and then the arrow at the top left to go back to the start.
These programmes are made in the app and are separate from the programme set on the MELODY itself.
Delete or temporarily switch off a programme in the app
- Tap inside the frame of the group where the melody is.
- At the bottom left, choose «χρονόμετρο» (timer). The programmes appear.
- To switch a programme off for a while, tap the on/off switch to the right of it. When the switch is to the left, the programme is off; when it is to the right, it is on.
- To delete it for good, select the programme, tap «Διαγραφή» (delete) at the bottom, then tap confirm.
- Tap the arrow at the top left to go back to the start.
⚠ Deleting cannot be undone. If you only want it not to ring for a while, switch it off with the switch.
App buttons with the name of the melody
- Tap inside the frame of the button group. The buttons appear larger.
- Tap the three dots at the top right.
- Choose «Όνομα» (name).
- For each button, type the name you want (e.g. the name of the melody instead of M1) and tap save at the top right.
Usual names: the 1st group is called «MELODY Μ1‑Μ4» and has the buttons M1–M4; the 2nd is called «MELODY Μ5‑STOP» and has M5, M6, M7, STOP. The M1–M4 group should appear at the top and the M5–STOP group at the bottom.
⚠ In the 2nd group, the 4th button is STOP. Leave its name as STOP.
The Wi‑Fi app does not connect
- If the buttons are faded and there is an exclamation mark (!) on the Wi‑Fi signal, the Wi‑Fi controller is not connected to the network.
- Check that the controller’s power adapter is plugged in and that the church’s Wi‑Fi is working.
- After a power cut the controller reconnects by itself, so wait a little.
- Once it is connected, the buttons appear in bright colours and next to them you can see how strong the signal is.
- If the signal has only a few bars, the controller needs to be moved closer to the router.
- If someone else has the app open with the same account at the same time, the buttons may not appear for you. Try again later.
- If you have changed the router or the Wi‑Fi password, or if it still does not connect: please contact Tsitouras Bros Co. (Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00 Greek time) on +30 210 555 0700 or by email at info@bells.gr.
The controller connects to the network once, using the router’s details, and after that it reconnects by itself.
The app on several phones, and logging out
- The app can be installed on several phones, but everyone uses the same account (same e‑mail and password).
- Whoever logs in first has control. If others log in at the same time, they will not see the buttons.
- To log out: choose «προφίλ» (profile), then the small circle at the top right and then «αποσύνδεση» (log out).
- Once you have logged out, if someone takes your phone they cannot ring the bell without the account details.
If you don’t log out, the app opens straight to the buttons.
⚠ Don’t give the account details to anyone who should not operate the bells.
Connect the Wi‑Fi controller to the phone (e.g. new phone or router)
- On your phone you need the Wi‑Fi control app that the company recommends, and an account in it (an e‑mail and a password that you choose).
- The phone must be connected to the church’s 2.4G Wi‑Fi. Place the Wi‑Fi controller near the router and plugged into a socket.
- Put the controller into pairing mode. Newer type: hold the L4 button down for 5 seconds, until the light flashes “twice, pause” over and over. Older type (with two circuit boards): on the lower board, hold the S4 or S3 button down for 8 seconds.
- In the app, tap «+» at the top and choose «προσθήκη συσκευής» (add device) for quick pairing.
- Type your Wi‑Fi password, tap «επόμενο» (next) and follow the instructions on the screen until it is finished.
- Older type: once it is connected, the blue light on the board stays on steadily. Then do the same for the upper board.
- Newer type: tap inside the button group, then the 3 dots at the top right and «ρυθμίσεις αργής κίνησης» (slow-motion settings). Turn on all 4 channels and tap save. Then give the buttons names.
The connection to the network is made once. After a power cut the controller reconnects by itself. On the older type, the lower board corresponds to memories M1–M4 and the upper board to M5, M6, M7 and STOP. If the groups appear the wrong way round, delete one and add it again.
⚠ The S3/S4 buttons are on the circuit boards. If you are not sure, ask the company for help. If quick pairing fails although the Wi‑Fi password is correct, there is a «λειτουργία συμβατότητας» (compatibility mode) — a code is required, contact the company.
Commands by SMS (MELODY with GSM module, mostly older units)
- This applies only if your MELODY has the optional GSM module. The commands are described in the MELODY 2012 manual.
- Registering your mobile number in the unit (up to 4 numbers) is done with a special command (a code is required — contact the company).
- Send an SMS in Latin characters: M1 for memory M1 (and likewise for the other memories) and m0 for memory M10.
- If you send R1, memory M1 rings and the unit replies by SMS that the command has been carried out.
- A missed call to the unit always rings memory M1.
- The SMS time corrects the time of the unit itself.
- Tower clock: send C:015 to move it forward 15 minutes, or A:1422 if the tower clock is now showing 14:22.
The older manual also mentions a phone app, for easier use.
After a power cut
- Usually you don’t need to do anything: the MELODY is not affected by power cuts, because the battery of its internal clock lasts up to 10 years.
- When the power comes back, press the red button with the small light and check the time (line 2) and the date (line 3).
- If you have a tower clock, you will see CL (line 2) and CL1 (line 3). The clock moves forward by itself to make up the lost minutes, until both are 0. Don’t touch anything.
- If the time is wrong, set it (see “Change the time”).
- The Wi‑Fi controller reconnects by itself when the power comes back.
CL = how many minutes the tower clock has to “run” to be corrected. CL1 = the minutes that pass in the meantime. When CL reaches 0, CL1 is added to it, and this goes on until both are 0.
Something isn’t working (not ringing, ringing at the wrong time, display)
- Display off or showing only a large clock: this is normal. Press the red button with the small light. If it shows jumbled letters, press the same button.
- The automatic programme did not ring: check that the programme is active — Set: On, or «ΕΝΤΟΣ» (on) — that Day/Month include today, and that the unit’s time and date are correct.
- It rings at the wrong time: correct the time and the date. If you have Wi‑Fi, also check the programmes in the phone app.
- The clock does not strike the hours: check the quiet hours and quiet days (the hours you want it to strike must have a +).
- The tower clock shows a different time: see “Correct the tower clock”.
- You press M1–M10 and it does not start straight away (in a church with a tower clock): see “Make the M1–M10 buttons start immediately”.
- It does not work from the phone: see “The Wi‑Fi app does not connect”.
- For anything else (messages on the display, a bell that does not ring at all, noises): please contact Tsitouras Bros Co. (Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00 Greek time) on +30 210 555 0700 or by email at info@bells.gr.
⚠ Do not open the unit and do not change the striker or bell settings. These are done by the installer.
I forgot the unit’s code
- The unit’s codes are not given out through the assistant.
- Please contact Tsitouras Bros Co. (Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00 Greek time) on +30 210 555 0700 or by email at info@bells.gr.
The MELODY has two 4-digit codes: one for the operator menu (white button with the arrow / SHIFT: time, tower clock) and one for the settings menu (green ↵ / MENU: programmes, date, quiet hours, language). The manual stresses that you must not forget the code when you change it.
Change the security code
This setting is done by our technician.
⚠ If the new code is forgotten, you will not be able to get into the menu.
Striker settings (strike time)
This setting is done by our technician.
The longer the strike time, the more current the striker draws.
⚠ A wrong setting can put strain on the strikers.
Swinging bells (motor) and inertia time
This setting is done by our technician.
Bells 2–8 can work by swinging; bell 1 only by striking. The inertia time protects the external electric strikers after swinging.
