User guide: Smart Bells (electronic bells with speakers)

Dark grey (almost black) metal box, about 33 × 18 cm, with a 7-inch colour screen that shows a large digital time and date. On the right it says «Smart Bells» and above the screen «Digital Bells – mod. 870» (or «mod. 870 Evo»). At the bottom right it has the «ΤΣΙΤΟΥΡΑΣ» (Tsitouras) logo with the phone number 210 5550700. To the left of the screen it has 5 buttons I–V. To the right it has 5 buttons with symbols (hourglass, clock with a small hammer, bell, hand with a hammer, pointing hand), 4 arrows, the OK and NO buttons and a USB port. Below the screen it has 10 number buttons (1–9 and 0).

Smart Bells (electronic bells with speakers)

Ask the digital assistant

Play a melody now (by its number)

  1. You must see the home screen with the large time. If you are inside a menu, press NO a few times.
  2. To the right of the screen there are 5 buttons. Press the last one, at the very bottom (symbol: hand pointing with a finger). You will see «ΕΚΤΕΛΕΣΗ ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑΣ» (play melody) and «ΕΚΤΕΛΕΣΗ ΑΡ.: 0» (play number: 0).
  3. Type the number of the melody with the number buttons below the screen (e.g. 7).
  4. Press OK. The melody starts, and the screen shows its number and title.
  5. To play it again, press OK while it is still playing. The repeat counter on the screen goes up by one with each press.
  6. To stop it, press NO a few times.

If you do not know the number, in step 3 type 0 and press OK to see the list of melodies. If you press NO only once, the extra repeats are cancelled and the melody ends normally, without being cut off.

Play from the memory buttons I–V

  1. The 5 buttons to the left of the screen (I, II, III, IV, V) play the melodies stored in memories 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
  2. Briefly press the button you want (e.g. II). You will see «ΚΛΗΣΗ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑΤΟΣ» (program call) and the title of the melody.
  3. Press OK to start. If you have changed your mind, press NO and you go back without it playing.
  4. To stop it at any moment, press NO twice.

If you press a button but not OK, the message stays on the screen for about 5 minutes, and then the controller returns to the home screen by itself. If the company has given you a «ΜΝΗΜΕΣ» (memories) card, it shows what each memory plays.

⚠ Do not hold the button down for 5 seconds. That switches automatic playing of this memory on or off (see “I–V buttons gold or grey”).

Stop a melody or bell ringing

  1. Press the NO button (on the right, below the arrows) twice. If it keeps going, press it again until it stops.
  2. If you only want it not to play again (that is, to let the repeat you set end smoothly), press NO once. The melody finishes normally.
  3. With the remote control: press ON/OFF to activate the remote control, and then the red STOP button.
  4. If the bell rings automatically at a time you do not want, see “Pause the whole automatic schedule” or “Cancel a bell ringing for one day only”.

If the sound fades out slowly instead of stopping abruptly, «ΣΒΗΣΙΜΟ» (fade-out) has been set (see “Make the sound fade out slowly”). The company’s «ΜΝΗΜΕΣ» (memories) card says that NO twice stops everything.

Make the sound fade out slowly when I stop it («ΣΒΗΣΙΜΟ»)

  1. From the home screen press 1 and then 4 for «ΕΛΕΓΧΟΣ ΗΧΟΥ» (sound control).
  2. Press 2 and then 3 for «ΣΒΗΣΙΜΟ» (fade-out). You will see «ΔΙΑΚΟΠΗ ΜΕ ΣΒΗΣΙΜΟ» (stop with fade-out) and «ΔΙΑΡΚ. 0-->15(s)» (duration 0 to 15 seconds).
  3. Type how many seconds you want the fade-out to last (from 0 to 15) and press OK. With 0, the sound stops immediately.
  4. Press NO to exit. The setting is confirmed.

The setting applies to all melodies, every time you stop a melody before it ends.

Change the time on the controller

  1. From the home screen press 1. The «ΑΜΕΣΗ ΠΡΟΣΒΑΣΗ» (quick access) menu opens.
  2. Press 1 for «ΡΟΛΟΙ» (clock) and then 1 again for «ΡΥΘΜΙΣΗ ΩΡΑΣ» (set time). You will see «ΩΡΑ» (time) with hours : minutes : seconds, and the hours will be highlighted.
  3. Type the correct hour with the number buttons.
  4. With the left/right arrows go to the minutes and the seconds and type them.
  5. Press OK to save.
  6. Press NO a few times to return to the home screen.

If you press NO before OK, you exit without saving anything. When the controller is connected to the Internet, it corrects the time by itself once a day. If the time is wrong by exactly one hour, first check summer time (1 → 1 → 4).

Change the date

  1. From the home screen press 1 for «ΑΜΕΣΗ ΠΡΟΣΒΑΣΗ» (quick access) and then 1 for «ΡΟΛΟΙ» (clock).
  2. Press 2 for «ΡΥΘΜΙΣΗ ΗΜΕΡΟΜΗΝΙΑΣ» (set date). You will see «ΗΜΕΡ.» (date) with day/month/year, and the day will be highlighted.
  3. Type the correct day. With the arrows go to the month and the year and type them.
  4. Press OK to save. If you press NO, you exit without saving.
  5. Press NO a few times to return to the home screen.

Summer / winter time (automatic change)

  1. The controller changes the time by itself on the last Sunday of March and the last Sunday of October. The manual mentions the time 02:00.
  2. To check it, from the home screen press 1, then 1 for «ΡΟΛΟΙ» (clock) and then 4 for «ΑΥΤΟΜΑΤΗ ΚΑΛΟΚΑΙΡΙΝΗ ΩΡΑ» (automatic summer time).
  3. You should see «ΕΝΕΡΓΟΠ. DST: ΝΑΙ» (DST on: yes) and below it «ΤΕΛΕΥΤ. ΚΥΡ ΜΑΡΤΙΟΣ» (last Sunday of March) and «ΤΕΛΕΥΤ. ΚΥΡ ΟΚΤΩΒΡΙΟΣ» (last Sunday of October).
  4. If it says «ΟΧΙ» (no): with the up/down arrows go to that line, and with the left/right arrows change it to «ΝΑΙ» (yes).
  5. Press NO to exit. «ΑΝΑΒΑΘΜΙΣΗ» (update) will appear. With the left/right arrows choose «ΝΑΙ» and press OK to save.

In the bottom bar of the screen there is a sun with «+1». When it is blue, the automatic change is on. When it is grey, it is off. If there was no power at the moment of the change, the change is made within the next 22 hours.

Time format (24-hour or a.m./p.m.) and date format

  1. For the time format: from the home screen press 1, then 1 for «ΡΟΛΟΙ» (clock) and then 5 for «24ΩΡΗ ΜΟΡΦΗ» (24-hour format).
  2. Choose «ΝΑΙ» (yes) for 24-hour time (e.g. 16:00) or «ΟΧΙ» (no) for a.m./p.m., and confirm with OK.
  3. For the date format: press 1, 1, 6 for «ΜΟΡΦΗ ΗΜΕΡΟΜΗΝΙΑΣ» (date format). With the left/right arrows choose DD/MM/YYYY (day/month/year).
  4. Press NO. At the save question choose «ΝΑΙ» with the left/right arrows and press OK.

For the 24-hour format the manual only says to confirm «ΝΑΙ» or «ΟΧΙ», and does not say with which buttons. If it does not change, contact the company.

Automatic time from the Internet or GPS: how to tell if it works

  1. Look at the row of small icons at the bottom of the home screen.
  2. Network icon (two small screens): without a red X, the controller is connected to the network. With a red X, it is disconnected.
  3. When there is an Internet connection, the controller corrects the time by itself once a day, as long as the time zone is correct. For Greece it must say «UTC +02» (1 → 1 → 3).
  4. «GPS» icon (for the optional GPS receiver): green means that at least one correct time correction has been made since midnight (it flashes while it receives a signal). Grey means there is no receiver, or no correction was made.

The GPS receiver and the network connection are installed and set up by the company’s technician.

Set the hands of the tower clock

  1. Check what time the hands of the tower clock show right now.
  2. From the home screen press 1, then 1 for «ΡΟΛΟΙ» (clock) and then 7 for «ΡΥΘΜΙΣΗ ΡΟΛΟΓΙΟΥ» (clock setting). You will see «ΩΡΑ» (hour) and «ΛΕΠΤΑ» (minutes).
  3. Type the hour shown by the hands and press OK. Then type the minutes and press OK.
  4. «ΑΝΑΒΑΘΜΙΣΗ ΟΧΙ» (update: no) will appear. With the left/right arrows change it to «ΝΑΙ» (yes) and press OK.
  5. The controller brings the hands to the correct time. While the setting is made from this menu, the hands stop for a while.

According to the technical specifications, after a power cut the controller brings the hands to the correct time by itself. This setting is needed only if the hands still do not match.

⚠ This applies only if the technician has connected the tower clock to the controller. If you choose «ΟΧΙ» (no) or press NO, you exit without any change.

The controller’s clock gains or loses a few seconds every month

  1. From the home screen press 1, then 1 for «ΡΟΛΟΙ» (clock) and then 9 for «ΔΙΟΡΘΩΣΗ ΡΟΛΟΓΙΟΥ» (clock correction). You will see «ΕΜΠΡΟΣ/ΠΙΣΩ» (forward/back) and «ΔΕΥΤΕΡ.: 0» (seconds: 0).
  2. Type how many seconds per month you want it to correct (up to 60) and press OK.
  3. With the left/right arrows choose «ΕΜΠΡΟΣ» (forward) or «ΠΙΣΩ» (back) and press OK. The manual gives this example: for a clock that runs 5 seconds fast per month, you type 5 and choose «ΕΜΠΡΟΣ».
  4. Save as usual: when «ΑΝΑΒΑΘΜΙΣΗ» (update) appears, choose «ΝΑΙ» (yes) and press OK.

⚠ Usually this is not needed, especially if the controller gets the time from the Internet. The manual does not clearly explain what «ΕΜΠΡΟΣ» and «ΠΙΣΩ» mean. With the wrong choice, the clock will drift faster. If you are not sure, do not change it. Please contact Tsitouras Bros Co. (Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00 Greek time) on +30 210 555 0700 or by email at info@bells.gr.

What will ring today or on another day (checking the schedule)

  1. On the home screen, in the «ΣΥΜΒΑΝΤΑ» (events) box below the date, you see times and titles of the scheduled melodies.
  2. For the whole list of the day: from the home screen press OK. A list appears with the time, the number and the title of each melody.
  3. Press the right arrow to also see the day’s “services” (e.g. when the hourly strikes switch on or off).
  4. Press NO to return to the home screen.
  5. For another date (e.g. tomorrow): from the home screen press OK and then 0. «ΡΥΘΜΙΣΗ ΗΜΕΡΟΜΗΝΙΑΣ» (set date) appears. Type the date and press OK to see the «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΕΣ» (melodies) list for that day.

What the marks in the list mean: asterisk * next to the time = the whole automatic schedule is paused. Red X = the matching memory I–V is switched off. Red crossed-out line = cancelled for that day only. «+» = added for that day only. The list for a date also shows the times of «ΔΥΣΗ» (sunset) and «ΑΝΑΤΟΛΗ» (sunrise).

A bell ringing for one day only (funeral, wedding, vigil, feast day)

  1. From the home screen press 1 for «ΑΜΕΣΗ ΠΡΟΣΒΑΣΗ» (quick access), then 2 for «ΕΙΔΙΚΟΣ ΠΡΟΓ/ΣΜΟΣ» (special programming) and then 2 for «ΕΙΔΙΚΟ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ» (special schedule). You will see «ΗΜ ΜΗ ΕΤ» (day month year), «ΑΝΑ ΩΡΑ» (at time) and «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑ» (melody).
  2. Type the hour and minutes (e.g. 11 00) and press OK.
  3. If it is not for today: with the arrows go to the date, type the correct one and press OK.
  4. Type the melody number and press OK to save. With NO you exit without saving.
  5. To check: from the home screen press OK and then 0, type the date and press OK. The new bell ringing appears in the list with a «+» next to the time.

It plays only on that day, and then it deletes itself from the memory. If you set a time that already exists in the schedule, the melody that was already scheduled at that time will not play. There is also another way that opens the same screen: OK and 0, type the date and press OK, in the list press OK, with the arrow go to «ΕΙΣΑΓΩΓΗ» (insert) and press OK, and then type the hour, the minutes and the melody number.

Cancel a bell ringing for one day only

  1. From the home screen press OK and then 0. «ΡΥΘΜΙΣΗ ΗΜΕΡΟΜΗΝΙΑΣ» (set date) appears.
  2. Type the date (or leave today’s date) and press OK. The «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΕΣ» (melodies) list for that day appears.
  3. With the up/down arrows highlight the bell ringing you do not want and press OK.
  4. In the menu that opens, with «ΑΠΕΝΕΡΓΟΠΟΙΗΣΗ» (deactivate) highlighted, press OK.
  5. The line is now red and crossed out: it has been cancelled only for that time and day.
  6. Press NO to return to the home screen.

The permanent schedule does not change, and from the next time on the bell ringing plays normally. If you cancelled it by mistake, you can add it again for that day with “A bell ringing for one day only”, at the same time and with the same melody number.

Pause the whole automatic schedule (and switch it back on)

  1. To the right of the screen, the first button from the top has an hourglass symbol.
  2. To pause: hold it down for about 5 seconds. The hourglass at the top left of the screen turns grey.
  3. To check: press OK. An asterisk * appears next to the times in the list. Press NO to return to the home screen.
  4. To switch it back on: hold the hourglass button down again for about 5 seconds. The hourglass turns gold again.

The pause stays until you cancel it yourself. It does not stop the “services” (e.g. lights). The hourly strikes have their own button (clock with a small hammer). You can do the same with service 24 (pause) or 23 (back on), from 1 → 2 → 3.

I–V buttons gold or grey (automatic playing of a memory)

  1. At the bottom left of the screen you see 5 small circles I–V. Gold means that the scheduled times of this memory play. Grey means that they do not play.
  2. To change the state, hold down the matching button (e.g. I) for about 5 seconds.
  3. The circle changes colour. When it is grey, the list of the day (OK button) shows a red X next to the time.
  4. To switch it back on, hold the button again for about 5 seconds until it turns gold.

Example: if melody 1 is scheduled at 16:00 and I is grey, it will not play at 16:00 until you switch it back on.

Silence the bells for a set period (from–to)

  1. From the home screen press 1, then 2 for «ΕΙΔΙΚΟΣ ΠΡΟΓ/ΣΜΟΣ» (special programming) and then 1 for «ΔΙΑΚΟΠΗ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑΤΟΣ» (schedule interruption). You will see «ΑΝΑΣΤΟΛΗ ΗΧΟΥ» (sound suspension).
  2. Type the time (hours and minutes) when the silence will start and press OK. If needed, go to the date with the arrows, correct it and press OK.
  3. «ΕΝΕΡΓΟΠΟΙΗΣΗ ΗΧΟΥ» (sound activation) will appear. Type the time (and, if needed, the date) when the schedule will start again and press OK.
  4. Press NO to return to the home screen.

The hourly strikes and the “services” continue normally. The setting is deleted from the memory as soon as it has been carried out.

⚠ You must fill in both: when it stops and when it starts again. With a wrong setting the controller may be left without automatic bell ringings. If the hourglass stays grey, switch the schedule back on by pressing in this order: 1, 2, 3, 2, 3, OK, 1, OK (this runs service 23).

New permanent bell ringing in the schedule (every day, every Sunday or every year)

  1. From the home screen press 2 and then OK. The «ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ ΚΑΜΠΑΝΙΣΜΩΝ» (bell-ringing schedule) tab opens (hourglass symbol).
  2. You will be asked for a code: (requires a code — contact the company).
  3. Press 3 for «ΤΥΠΙΚΗ» (standard). With «** ΝΕΟ» (new) highlighted, press OK. You will see «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑ» (melody), «ΕΒ: ΠΑΝΤΑ» (week: always), «ΗΜ/ΜΗ/ΕΤ» (day/month/year) and «ΑΝΑ ΩΡΑ» (at time).
  4. Press OK, type the melody number and press OK.
  5. For every day: press OK again to go to the time. For one day of the week only: with the left/right arrows change «ΠΑΝΤΑ» (always), e.g. to «ΚΥΡ» (Sunday), and press OK.
  6. For every year on a set date (e.g. the feast day of your church): press OK, go with the up arrow to «ΗΜ/ΜΗ/ΕΤ» and type the day and the month (e.g. 01 07).
  7. Type the time (e.g. 12 00) and press OK. The new line appears in the «ΤΥΠΙΚΗ» list.
  8. Press NO to exit and save.

⚠ Usually the technician has set up the schedule of your church with «ΤΥΠΙΚΗ ΗΜΕΡΑ» (standard day) and «ΤΥΠΙΚΗ ΕΒΔΟΜΑΔΑ» (standard week). If there is another bell ringing at the same time, the one in «ΤΥΠΙΚΗ» (standard) plays, not the one in «ΤΥΠΙΚΗ ΗΜΕΡΑ». If you are not sure, please contact Tsitouras Bros Co. (Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00 Greek time) on +30 210 555 0700 or by email at info@bells.gr.

Change the melody of a bell ringing in the schedule

  1. From the home screen press 2 and then OK. You will be asked for a code: (requires a code — contact the company).
  2. Press 3 for «ΤΥΠΙΚΗ» (standard). The list appears, e.g. «1 ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑ:50 … ΠΑΝΤΑ __/__ 12:00» (1, melody 50, always, 12:00).
  3. With the up/down arrows highlight the bell ringing you want to change and press OK.
  4. «ΕΠΕΞΕΡΓΑΣΙΑ» (edit) / «ΔΙΑΓΡΑΦΗ» (delete) appears. With «ΕΠΕΞΕΡΓΑΣΙΑ» highlighted, press OK.
  5. The same tab opens as when it was created. At «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑ» (melody) press OK, type the new melody number and press OK.
  6. Continue with OK through the other fields (day, time) and leave them as they are or correct them, until you see the list again with the new number.
  7. Press NO to exit and save.

If you cannot find it in «ΤΥΠΙΚΗ», it may be in «ΤΥΠΙΚΗ ΗΜΕΡΑ» (standard day, position 1) or in «ΕΒΔΟΜΑΔΑ ΤΟΥ ΜΗΝΑ» (week of the month, position 4) of the same menu. There the change is made the same way: highlight it, press OK and choose the edit option. For the bell ringings in «ΕΟΡΤΗ» (feast) and in «ΚΑΘΗΜΕΡΙΝΑ» (daily), the manual does not describe how to change them. If you want a different melody for one day only, without changing the permanent schedule: cancel the bell ringing for that day (OK and 0 → «ΑΠΕΝΕΡΓΟΠΟΙΗΣΗ», deactivate) and add another one with «ΕΙΔΙΚΟ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ» (special schedule), 1 → 2 → 2.

Permanently delete a bell ringing from the schedule

  1. From the home screen press 2 and then OK. You will be asked for a code: (requires a code — contact the company).
  2. Press 3 for «ΤΥΠΙΚΗ» (standard) to see the list.
  3. With the up/down arrows highlight the bell ringing you want to delete and press OK.
  4. In the «ΕΠΕΞΕΡΓΑΣΙΑ» (edit) / «ΔΙΑΓΡΑΦΗ» (delete) menu, go with the arrow to «ΔΙΑΓΡΑΦΗ» and press OK.
  5. Press NO to exit and save.

⚠ Deleting is permanent. If you just want it not to ring once, use “Cancel a bell ringing for one day only” (OK and 0).

Feast days (Christmas, Theophany, Easter) and the patronal feast

  1. For one time only (e.g. this year’s patronal feast): use “A bell ringing for one day only”: 1 → 2 → 2, «ΕΙΔΙΚΟ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ» (special schedule).
  2. For a feast with a fixed date every year (e.g. the saint of your church): add a permanent bell ringing with day and month (see “New permanent bell ringing”, step 6).
  3. For a great feast that is in the controller’s list: from the home screen press 2 and OK. You will be asked for a code: (requires a code — contact the company).
  4. Press 5 for «ΕΟΡΤΗ» (feast) and then 1 for «ΙΕΡΑ ΠΑΝΗΓΥΡΙΣ» (holy feast). With «** ΝΕΟ» (new) highlighted, press OK.
  5. With the left/right arrows choose the feast, e.g. «ΧΡΙΣΤΟΥΓΕΝΝΑ 25/12» (Christmas) or «ΘΕΟΦΑΝΙΑ 06/01» (Theophany), and press OK.
  6. With the left/right arrows choose what will play, e.g. «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑ» (melody). Type the number, fill in the time at «ΑΝΑ ΩΡΑ» (at time) and press OK.
  7. Press NO to exit.

⚠ A feast that is not in the list can be added only from the installer menu. For Easter and the movable feasts, first ask the company whether your controller calculates them by the Orthodox calendar: the table in the manual gives the dates of Western Easter. Please contact Tsitouras Bros Co. (Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00 Greek time) on +30 210 555 0700 or by email at info@bells.gr.

Funeral toll (funeral, Holy Week)

  1. Find the number of the funeral toll in the controller’s melody list (see “Melody list”) or on the company’s «ΜΝΗΜΕΣ» (memories) card, if you have been given one. There it may appear e.g. as «ΠΕΝΘΙΜΟ ΚΗΔΕΙΑΣ» (funeral toll).
  2. If the funeral toll is on a button I–V: press the button and then OK.
  3. Otherwise: press the bottom button to the right of the screen (pointing hand), type the number and press OK.
  4. To play it again, press OK while it is still playing.
  5. To stop it, press NO twice.
  6. For a funeral toll at a set time (e.g. tomorrow at the funeral), set it as “A bell ringing for one day only” (1 → 2 → 2).

Some funeral tolls last a long time. The company’s lists include e.g. a 15-minute Holy Friday funeral toll, «ΠΕΝΘΙΜΟ ΚΗΔΕΙΑΣ (5 λεπτά)» (funeral toll, 5 minutes) and a Holy Week funeral toll that plays without stopping. All of them stop with NO. If you do not want festive ringing on the following days, see “Silence the bells for a set period”.

Hourly strikes: switch on / off

  1. To the right of the screen, the second button from the top has the symbol of a clock with a small hammer.
  2. To switch off: hold it down for more than 5 seconds. The clock with the small hammer at the top of the screen turns grey.
  3. To switch on: hold it down again for more than 5 seconds. The symbol turns gold.
  4. Or from the menu: press 1, 2, 3 for «ΕΚΤΕΛΕΣΗ ΥΠΗΡΕΣΙΑΣ» (run service), type 21 (on) or 22 (off) and press OK. Then press 1 (= «ΝΑΙ», yes) and OK.

If the schedule has a time when the strikes switch on by themselves, they will switch on again automatically at that time. The type of strike is changed from the same menu, by running one of the services 01 to 13, e.g. «ΜΟΝΟ ΩΡΕΣ» (hours only), «1 ΚΤΥΠ. ΜΙΣΕΣ» (1 strike at the half hour), «ΩΡΑ+ΤΕΤΑΡΤΟ» (hour + quarter), «ΟΧΙ ΡΟΛΟΙ» (no clock). To have them switch off by themselves every night (the manual gives an example with switching on at 06:55 and off at 22:05), programming is needed in «ΚΑΘΗΜΕΡΙΝΑ» (daily) (requires a code — contact the company). The volume of the strikes is set at 1 → 4 → 2 → 1, line «ΩΡΙΑΙΑ ΚΡΟΥΣΗ» (hourly strike).

Lower volume at night (night mode)

  1. Night mode lowers the volume to the value on the «ΝΥΧΤΕΡΙΝΗ ΕΝΤΑΣΗ» (night volume) line.
  2. To switch it on: press 1, 2, 3 for «ΕΚΤΕΛΕΣΗ ΥΠΗΡΕΣΙΑΣ» (run service), type 25 and press OK. Then press 1 (= «ΝΑΙ», yes) and OK.
  3. To switch it off: do the same with the number 26. The volume goes back to normal.
  4. In the bottom bar of the screen, the moon is blue when night mode is on and grey when it is off.
  5. You change the night volume value at 1 → 4 → 2 → 1, line «ΝΥΧΤΕΡΙΝΗ ΕΝΤΑΣΗ».

To have it switch on and off by itself every evening and morning, a service must be programmed (requires a code — contact the company).

Speaker volume and tone

  1. From the home screen press 1 and then 4 for «ΕΛΕΓΧΟΣ ΗΧΟΥ» (sound control). Press 2 for «ΕΛΕΓΧΟΣ ΕΝΤΑΣΗΣ-ΤΟΝΟΥ» (volume and tone control) and then 1.
  2. A list with numbers appears: «ΚΥΡΙΑ ΕΝΤΑΣΗ» (main volume), «ΟΘΟΝΗ» (screen), «ΝΥΧΤΕΡΙΝΗ ΕΝΤΑΣΗ» (night volume), «ΩΡΙΑΙΑ ΚΡΟΥΣΗ» (hourly strike), «ΝΥΧΤ.ΩΡΙΑΙΑ ΚΡΟΥΣΗ» (night hourly strike), «ΣΤΑΘΕΡΗ» (fixed), «ΚΙΝΗΣΗ» (swinging).
  3. With the up/down arrows go to the line you want (e.g. «ΚΥΡΙΑ ΕΝΤΑΣΗ»).
  4. Type the new value with the number buttons and press OK.
  5. Press NO to exit. The settings are confirmed.
  6. Test with a melody and, if needed, adjust a little more.

«ΚΥΡΙΑ ΕΝΤΑΣΗ» = the overall volume. «ΟΘΟΝΗ» = the small speaker inside the controller. «ΣΤΑΘΕΡΗ» = the melodies. «ΚΙΝΗΣΗ» = the bells swinging. «ΩΡΙΑΙΑ ΚΡΟΥΣΗ» = the hourly strikes. «ΝΥΧΤΕΡΙΝΗ ΕΝΤΑΣΗ» = the volume when night mode is on. For bass and treble: 1 → 4 → 2 → 2, «ΕΛΕΓΧΟΣ ΤΟΝΟΥ» (tone control), lines «ΜΠΑΣΣΑ» (bass) and «ΠΡΙΜΑ» (treble), in the same way: type a value, press OK and then NO.

Switch the external speakers on / off

  1. Look at the bottom bar of the screen. If the speaker has a red X, the external speakers are off.
  2. From the home screen press 1 and then 4 for «ΕΛΕΓΧΟΣ ΗΧΟΥ» (sound control). The first line says «ΕΞΩΤΕΡΙΚΟ ΗΧΕΙΟ ON» (external speaker on) or «OFF».
  3. Press 1 to change the state. When «ΑΝΑΒΑΘΜΙΣΗ ΝΑΙ» (update: yes) appears, press OK.
  4. The line now shows the new state (ON = on, OFF = off). Press NO to return to the home screen.

You can do the same with services 27 (speakers on) and 28 (speakers off), from 1 → 2 → 3. If the speakers are ON, the volume is normal and still nothing can be heard, a technician is needed.

Run a “service” (switch functions on/off by number)

  1. From the home screen press 1 for «ΑΜΕΣΗ ΠΡΟΣΒΑΣΗ» (quick access), then 2 for «ΕΙΔΙΚΟΣ ΠΡΟΓ/ΣΜΟΣ» (special programming) and then 3 for «ΕΚΤΕΛΕΣΗ ΥΠΗΡΕΣΙΑΣ» (run service).
  2. The list of services appears, e.g. «1 ΜΟΝΟ ΩΡΕΣ» (1 hours only), and below it «ΕΚΤΕΛ. ΥΠΗΡ.ΑΡ.:» (run service no.).
  3. Type the service number (or find it with the up/down arrows) and press OK.
  4. «ΕΠΙΒΕΒΑΙΩΣΗ;1=ΝΑΙ» (confirm? 1 = yes) appears. Press 1 and then OK.
  5. Press NO to return to the home screen.

An asterisk * next to the number means that the service is active. Useful numbers: 21/22 hourly strikes on/off, 23/24 scheduled melodies on/paused, 25/26 night volume yes/no, 27/28 external speakers on/off, 39/40 melodies and hourly strikes together on/off, 01 to 13 type of hourly strike, e.g. 01 «ΜΟΝΟ ΩΡΕΣ» (hours only) and 13 «ΟΧΙ ΡΟΛΟΙ» (no clock). With 43, the screen lighting comes on for 1 minute when you press a button. With 42 it stays on all the time, but the manual does not recommend this because it shortens the life of the screen.

⚠ Do not run services you do not know. Numbers 70 to 150 are for your own special services (e.g. lights, heating), which the technician creates from the settings menu.

Remote control

  1. Press the ON/OFF button to activate the remote control.
  2. Type the melody number with the number buttons.
  3. Press the green START button. The melody starts.
  4. To stop it: press ON/OFF (to activate the remote control) and then the red STOP button.
  5. For a service (e.g. 22 to switch off the hourly strikes): press ON/OFF and then the orange S button. «S» appears on the small screen. Type the number and press START.

On the controller, the antenna icon in the bottom bar flashes when it receives commands from the remote control. Grey means it is not receiving anything. The remote control is an optional accessory.

Control from a phone, tablet or computer

  1. Connection to a phone, tablet or computer is an optional system. The company connects it and activates it.
  2. There is a free app for phones and tablets (Android and iPhone/iOS). In it you see today’s events, pause the automatic schedule and start melodies and services.
  3. In the bottom bar of the screen there is a cloud icon. In colour (blue with a green arrow) means connected. A grey outline means it is not working.
  4. If the network icon (two small screens) has a red X, the controller is not connected to the network. In that case, contact the company.

For installation or for instructions on using the app, please contact Tsitouras Bros Co. (Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00 Greek time) on +30 210 555 0700 or by email at info@bells.gr.

Melody list and what each memory plays

  1. Press the bottom button to the right of the screen (pointing hand). «ΕΚΤΕΛΕΣΗ ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑΣ» (play melody) appears.
  2. Type 0 and press OK. The list of melodies appears, with number and title.
  3. Note the number you want and press NO to go back.
  4. Buttons I–V play memories 1–5. If you press one of them, you see its title before you press OK. With NO you go back without it playing.
  5. If the company has given you a «ΜΝΗΜΕΣ» (memories) card or a melody list, it shows each number with its name.

The controller has up to 1,000 melodies: hymns, apolytikia and electronic bell sound for the speakers, and bell ringings. The numbering changes from church to church. For the list of your own controller, please contact Tsitouras Bros Co. (Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00 Greek time) on +30 210 555 0700 or by email at info@bells.gr.

Change what an I–V button plays

  1. Buttons I–V play the melodies with numbers 1–5. To change a button, you copy the melody you want to number 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5.
  2. From the home screen press 3 for the «ΗΧΟΣ ΚΑΜΠΑΝΑΣ» (bell sound) tab and then 4 for «ΑΝΤΙΓΡΑΦΗ» (copy). If a code is requested: (requires a code — contact the company).
  3. At «ΕΠΙΛΟΓΗ ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑΣ» (select melody) type the number of the melody you want and press OK.
  4. On the «ΑΝΤΙΓΡΑΦΗ» screen, at «ΝΕΟΣ ΑΡΙΘΜΟΣ» (new number), the controller suggests the first free number. Type 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 (it must be free) and press OK.
  5. To test: press the matching button I–V. The new title appears. Press OK to play it or NO to go back.

⚠ If the number 1–5 is already taken, the old melody must first be deleted from menu 3 → 5, «ΔΙΑΓΡΑΦΗ» (delete). Deleting is final, and the melodies the controller has from the factory cannot be deleted. It is better to let the company do it or guide you. Please contact Tsitouras Bros Co. (Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00 Greek time) on +30 210 555 0700 or by email at info@bells.gr.

Keypad lock (padlock)

  1. Look at the padlock in the bottom bar of the screen. A grey padlock means the buttons are unlocked. A blue padlock means they are locked.
  2. Locking and unlocking are done with a special command: (requires a code — contact the company).

The lock is there so that nobody tampers with the controller. The programming and settings menus are also locked with an access code.

Power cut

  1. The schedule and the melodies are not lost when the power goes off, because they are kept in permanent memory.
  2. The time is kept by an internal lithium battery, which lasts about 10 years.
  3. When the power comes back, check that the time and the date on the screen are correct. If not, correct them (1 → 1 → 1 for the time, 1 → 1 → 2 for the date).
  4. Make sure that the hourglass at the top left of the screen is gold, that is, that the schedule is working.
  5. If you have a tower clock connected to the controller, its hands correct themselves after the power cut. If they still do not match, see “Set the hands of the tower clock” (1 → 1 → 7).

If the summer/winter time change fell during the power cut, it will be made within the next 22 hours. If the time is lost at every power cut, please contact Tsitouras Bros Co. (Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00 Greek time) on +30 210 555 0700 or by email at info@bells.gr.

Restart / switch the controller off and on

This setting is done by our technician.

⚠ Before you call, check whether a blue padlock is shown in the bottom bar of the screen. If so, the keypad is simply locked. Please contact Tsitouras Bros Co. (Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00 Greek time) on +30 210 555 0700 or by email at info@bells.gr.

Not ringing, wrong time or dark screen: what to check

  1. Dark screen: press a button. The lighting comes on for about 1 minute and then goes off again; this is normal. If it does not come on at all, contact the company.
  2. Nothing plays automatically: if the hourglass at the top left of the screen is grey, hold down the hourglass button (the first from the top, to the right of the screen) for about 5 seconds until it turns gold.
  3. One particular memory does not play: if its circle (I–V) at the bottom left is grey, hold down the matching button for about 5 seconds until it turns gold.
  4. The speakers cannot be heard: if the speaker in the bottom bar has a red X, switch them on (1 → 4 → 1). Also check the volume (1 → 4 → 2 → 1).
  5. The hours do not strike: if the clock with the small hammer at the top of the screen is grey, hold down the second button to the right of the screen for more than 5 seconds.
  6. Time wrong by exactly 1 hour: check summer time at 1 → 1 → 4, where it must say «ΕΝΕΡΓΟΠ. DST: ΝΑΙ» (DST on: yes), and the time zone at 1 → 1 → 3, which for Greece must be «UTC +02». For any other wrong time: 1 → 1 → 1.
  7. The buttons do not respond: if a blue padlock is shown in the bottom bar, the keypad is locked (requires a code — contact the company).
  8. For error messages, or if none of the above helps, please contact Tsitouras Bros Co. (Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00 Greek time) on +30 210 555 0700 or by email at info@bells.gr.

With the OK button you see what is scheduled for today. An asterisk * next to the times means that the whole schedule is paused. If you stay in a menu without pressing a button, the controller returns to the home screen by itself after about 5 minutes.

Ring the bells by hand from the buttons 1–9

  1. To the right of the screen, press the 4th button from the top (symbol: hand holding a hammer). You will see «ΠΑΙΞΕ ΜΕ ΠΛΗΚΤΡΟΛΟΓΙΟ» (play with keypad).
  2. Press 1 for «ΠΛΗΚΤΡΑ 1-9» (keys 1-9). The strikers and the motors appear on the screen.
  3. Press the number buttons 1 to 9 to make the matching electromagnetic strikers (bells) ring.
  4. Press NO a few times to return to the home screen.

⚠ If your bells swing with motors, do not use option 3, «ΣΦΥΡΙΑ» (strikers together with swinging bells), unless the technician has shown it to you. With a wrong setting, the electromagnetic striker can be seriously damaged.

Swing the bells (with motors) by hand

  1. To the right of the screen, press the 3rd button from the top (bell symbol). You will see «ΕΚΤΕΛΕΣΗ ΚΙΝΗΤΗΣ» (run swinging) with «ΕΝΟΤ.ΑΡ.» (unit no.) and «ΡΥΘΜΟΣ» (rhythm).
  2. Type the numbers of the bells you want to swing.
  3. With the up/down arrows set the value at «ΡΥΘΜΟΣ».
  4. Press OK to start.
  5. Press NO a few times to stop.

⚠ This applies only to churches with bells swung by motors that are connected to the controller. The technician sets how long the controller waits for the bell to stop completely before the hammer strikes. If you hear the hammer strike a bell that is still swinging, stop and contact the company.

Installer settings (menu 5, gear icon)

This setting is done by our technician.

⚠ This is where the type of bells and speakers, the strikers and the motors, the hourly strikes, the tower clock, new feasts, the language, the access code, the network, resets and software upgrades are set. Wrong settings can stop the controller or cause damage. Please contact Tsitouras Bros Co. (Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00 Greek time) on +30 210 555 0700 or by email at info@bells.gr.

Backup of the schedule and melodies (USB / SD card)

This setting is done by our technician.

A few seconds after a USB stick or SD card is inserted, the matching icon in the bottom bar of the screen becomes coloured.
