User guide
User guide: Smart Bells GM-370
A black metal box, about 33 × 18 cm, with a 5″ colour screen in the middle showing a large clock with gold digits; above the screen it reads «Digital Bells - mod. 370». To the left of the screen there are 5 buttons I–V; to the right, 5 buttons with symbols (hourglass, clock with hammer, moving bell, hand holding a hammer, pointing hand); below, the keys 1–9 and 0; and on the right, the arrows, the OK and NO buttons and a USB socket.

Play a melody now (by its number)
- Make sure you can see the home screen with the large clock. If not, press NO a few times.
- Press the button with the hand pointing a finger. It is the last (bottom) of the 5 buttons to the right of the screen.
- The screen shows «ΕΚΤΕΛΕΣΗ ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑΣ» (play melody) and below it «ΕΚΤΕΛΕΣΗ ΑΡ.: 0» (play no.: 0).
- Type the melody number with the number keys below the screen (e.g. 1 and then 0 for melody 10).
- Press OK. The melody starts and the screen shows its number and title.
- Want it to play again? Press OK while it is playing. Each press adds one repeat, and the number is shown on the screen.
- To stop it, press NO twice (a few more times if needed).
You will find the number on the company’s «ΜΝΗΜΕΣ» (memories) card (if you were given one) or in the melody list (see “Melody list”). Melodies 1–5 are quicker to play with the buttons I–V to the left of the screen.
The quick buttons I–V (memories 1–5)
- From the home screen, briefly press one of the 5 buttons to the left of the screen (I, II, III, IV or V).
- The screen shows «ΚΛΗΣΗ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑΤΟΣ» (call programme) and the title of that button’s melody.
- Press OK to start it. If you press NO, you go back to the home screen without it playing.
- To stop it at any time, press NO twice.
I plays melody 1, II plays 2, III plays 3, IV plays 4 and V plays 5. If you press a button but not OK, the choice stays open for about 5 minutes and then the screen goes back to the start by itself.
⚠ Press the button briefly. If you hold it down for about 5 seconds, it switches off (or on) the automatic schedule of that melody (see “Turn the schedule of a button I–V on/off”).
Stop the bell ringing
- Press NO twice. The ringing stops.
- If it continues, press NO a few more times until you see the home screen with the clock.
- Want the melody to finish normally, without being cut off halfway? Press NO only once. The repeats are cancelled and the melody stops as soon as it ends.
- If you have a remote control, press the red STOP button.
If the technician has set «ΣΒΗΣΙΜΟ» (fade-out), the melody fades out gradually over a few seconds instead of stopping abruptly.
⚠ If a programme switches on lights or heating (relay timing) and you interrupt it with two NO presses while they are on, they may stay on until the unit is switched off. In that case, contact the company.
Where to find the melody list and the melody numbers
- Press the button with the pointing hand (bottom right, next to the screen). «ΕΚΤΕΛΕΣΗ ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑΣ» (play melody) appears with «ΕΚΤΕΛΕΣΗ ΑΡ.: 0» (play no.: 0).
- Leave the 0 (or type 0) and press OK. The list of melodies appears.
- To go back to the home screen, press NO a few times.
- On paper: see the company’s «ΜΝΗΜΕΣ» (memories) card (numbers 1–10 and 29) and the «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΕΣ» (melodies) catalogue, if you were given them. The «ΚΑΜΠΑΝΕΣ» (bells) column shows how many bells each melody is for.
Numbers 1–10 are the “memories” that the company prepares for your church; 1–5 also play from the buttons I–V. Example card for 3 bells: 1 «ΕΣΠΕΡΙΝΟΣ ΔΙΠΛΟΣ» (Vespers, double), 2 «ΠΡΩΙΝΟ ΚΑΛΕΣΜΑ» (morning call), 3 «ΛΕΙΤΟΥΡΓΙΑ ΠΑΝΟΡΜΙΤΗΣ» (Liturgy, Panormitis), 4 «ΔΟΞΟΛΟΓΙΑ ΚΥΡΙΑΚΗΣ» (Sunday doxology), 5 «ΛΕΙΤΟΥΡΓΙΑ ΕΟΡΤΩΝ» (feast-day Liturgy), 6 «ΑΓΙΟΡΕΙΤΙΚΟ ΔΟΞΑΣΤΙΚΟ» (Athonite doxastikon), 7 «ΧΑΡΜΟΣΥΝΟ» (joyful), 8 «ΑΝΑΣΤΑΣΙΜΟ-ΔΕΣΠΟΤΙΚΟ» (Resurrection / Feast of the Lord), 9 «ΑΓΙΟΡΕΙΤΙΚΟ ΟΡΜΥΛΙΑ» (Athonite, Ormylia), 10 «ΠΕΝΘΙΜΟ ΚΗΔΕΙΑΣ» (funeral toll), 29 «ΠΕΝΘΙΜΟ Μ. ΕΒΔΟΜΑΔΑΣ» (Holy Week toll). For 2 bells it starts with 1 «ΕΣΠΕΡΙΝΟΣ ΜΟΝΟΣ» (Vespers, single), 2 «ΕΣΠΕΡΙΝΟΣ ΔΙΠΛΟΣ», 3 «ΟΡΘΡΟΣ» (Matins), 4 «ΔΟΞΟΛΟΓΙΑ ΚΥΡΙΑΚΗΣ», and 10 is a funeral toll. For 4 bells, 5–9 are «ΠΑΝΗΓΥΡΙΚΗ ΔΟΞΟΛΟΓΙΑ» (festal doxology), «ΑΓΙΟΡΕΙΤΙΚΟ ΟΡΜΥΛΙΑ», «ΧΑΡΜΟΣΥΝΟ-ΑΓΙΟΡΕΙΤΙΚΟ» (joyful, Athonite), «ΧΑΡΜΟΣΥΝΟ ΓΙΟΡΤΕΣ» (joyful, feasts), «ΑΝΑΣΤΑΣΙΜΟ-ΔΕΣΠΟΤΙΚΟ». Your own church’s card may differ; the one you have is the one that applies.
Change the time on the unit
- From the home screen press 1. «ΑΜΜΕΣΗ ΠΡΟΣΒΑΣΗ» (direct access) appears.
- Press 1 for «ΡΟΛΟΙ» (clock).
- Press 1 for «ΡΥΘΜΙΣΗ ΩΡΑΣ» (set time). You will see «ΩΡΑ» (time) with hours:minutes:seconds; the hours are highlighted.
- Use the left/right arrows to move to the hours, the minutes or the seconds.
- Type the correct value with the number keys.
- Press OK to save. If you press NO, you leave without changing anything.
- Press NO a few times and check the time on the home screen.
If the time is wrong by exactly one hour, first check the automatic summer/winter time (see “Summer / winter time”). If the tower clock also shows the wrong time, see “The tower clock shows the wrong time”.
Change the date
- From the home screen press 1, then 1 for «ΡΟΛΟΙ» (clock) and then 2 for «ΡΥΘΜΙΣΗ ΗΜΕΡΟΜΗΝΙΑΣ» (set date).
- You will see «ΗΜΕΡ.» (date) with the date as day/month/year (e.g. 21/02/2023).
- Use the left/right arrows to move to the day, the month or the year.
- Type the correct value with the number keys.
- Press OK to save. If you press NO, you leave without any change.
- Press NO a few times and check the date on the home screen.
The correct date is needed so that the schedule and the feast days play correctly. The unit’s calendar is perpetual and also takes leap years into account.
Summer / winter time (automatic change)
- From the home screen press 1, then 1 for «ΡΟΛΟΙ» (clock) and then 4 for «ΑΥΤΟΜΑΤΗ ΚΑΛΟΚΑΙΡΙΝΗ ΩΡΑ» (automatic summer time).
- You will see «ΕΝΕΡΓΟΠ. DST:» (enable DST) with «ΝΑΙ» (yes) or «ΟΧΙ» (no), and below it «ΤΕΛΕΥΤ. ΚΥΡ ΜΑΡΤΙΟΣ» (last Sunday of March) and «ΤΕΛΕΥΤ. ΚΥΡ ΟΚΤΩΒΡΙΟΣ» (last Sunday of October).
- If it shows «ΟΧΙ», change it to «ΝΑΙ» with the arrows.
- Press NO to leave. The «ΑΝΑΒΑΘΜΙΣΗ» (update) window appears.
- Choose «ΝΑΙ» with the left/right arrows and press OK to save.
- On the home screen, at the bottom right, the blue sun (with «+1») shows that the automatic change is on. If the sun is grey, it is off.
The change happens by itself at 02:00 on the last Sunday of March and the last Sunday of October. If there was no power at that time, it happens within the next 22 hours.
⚠ Do not change the dates (March / October). They are already correct.
Automatic time from a GPS/DCF receiver (if fitted)
- Look at the bottom right of the home screen for the symbols «GPS» and «DCF».
- If they are green, the correct time has been received from the receiver after midnight. While it is receiving, the symbol flashes.
- If they are grey, either there is no receiver or the correct time has not been received since midnight.
- With a receiver, the time corrects itself. For this to work properly, the time zone must be correct: 1 → 1 → 3, «ΕΠΙΛΟΓΗ ΖΩΝΗΣ ΩΡΑΣ» (time zone selection). Do not change it; if you suspect it is wrong, contact the company.
- Without a receiver, you correct the time by hand when needed (see “Change the time”).
The GPS/DCF receiver is optional and not all units have one. Without a receiver the clock is accurate to about ±0.1 seconds a day.
The clock drifts a few seconds every month (monthly correction)
- From the home screen press 1, then 1 for «ΡΟΛΟΙ» (clock) and then 9 for «ΔΙΟΡΘΩΣΗ ΡΟΛΟΓΙΟΥ» (clock correction). You will see «ΕΜΠΡΟΣ/ΠΙΣΩ» (forward/back) and «ΔΕΥΤΕΡ.: 0» (seconds: 0).
- In place of the 0, type how many seconds per month the clock should be corrected by (e.g. 5) and press OK.
- With the left/right arrows choose «ΕΜΠΡΟΣ» or «ΠΙΣΩ» and press OK.
- Press NO. At «ΑΝΑΒΑΘΜΙΣΗ» (update) choose «ΝΑΙ» (yes) with the arrows and press OK.
It accepts up to 60 seconds per month. The manual’s example: for a clock that “gains” 5 seconds a month, you type 5 and choose «ΕΜΠΡΟΣ».
⚠ The manual does not explain clearly whether «ΕΜΠΡΟΣ» means that the clock runs fast or that the unit will move it forward. If you are not sure, do not change it; just correct the time when needed (see “Change the time”) or contact the company.
24-hour or a.m./p.m. time, and date format
- From the home screen press 1, then 1 for «ΡΟΛΟΙ» (clock) and then 5 for «24ΩΡΗ ΜΟΡΦΗ» (24-hour format).
- The screen shows «ΝΑΙ» (yes: 24-hour, e.g. 17:00) or «ΟΧΙ» (no: a.m./p.m., with PM). Change it with the arrows.
- Press OK. If «ΑΝΑΒΑΘΜΙΣΗ» (update) appears, choose «ΝΑΙ» with the left/right arrows and press OK.
- For the date format: press 1, 1, 6 for «ΜΟΡΦΗ ΗΜΕΡΟΜΗΝΙΑΣ» (date format).
- With the left/right arrows choose a format, e.g. DD/MM/YYYY (day/month/year).
- Press NO. At «ΑΝΑΒΑΘΜΙΣΗ» choose «ΝΑΙ» with the arrows and press OK.
See what will ring today or on another day (the schedule)
- On the home screen press OK.
- The «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΕΣ» (melodies) list appears with «ΩΡΑ» (time), «ΑΡ.» (melody number) and «ΤΙΤΛΟ» (title) for today. Normal lines are shown in green letters.
- Red, crossed-out line: it will not play (cancelled for today, or its button I–V is switched off). «+» in front of the time: added for this day only. Asterisk *: the automatic schedule is stopped.
- Press the right arrow to see the day’s service programmes (e.g. switching the hour strikes on/off).
- Press NO to go back to the home screen.
- For another day: on the home screen press OK and then 0. At «ΡΥΘΜΙΣΗ ΗΜΕΡΟΜΗΝΙΑΣ» (set date) type the date you want and press OK.
The list shows one day at a time. Permanent changes to the schedule are made from menu 2, which asks for a code.
Add a ringing for one day only (feast day, festival, wedding, funeral, Easter)
- From the home screen press 1 for «ΑΜΜΕΣΗ ΠΡΟΣΒΑΣΗ» (direct access) and then 2 for «ΕΙΔΙΚΟΣ ΠΡΟΓ/ΣΜΟΣ» (special programming).
- Press 2 for «ΕΙΔΙΚΟ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ» (special programme). You will see «ΗΜ ΜΗ ΕΤ» (day month year – today’s date), «ΑΝΑ ΩΡΑ» (at time) and «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑ 0» (melody 0).
- Type the hour and minutes (e.g. 1 7 0 0 for 17:00) and press OK.
- If it is not for today, move to the date with the arrows, type the correct one and press OK.
- Type the melody number and press OK to save. If you press NO, you leave without saving.
- Check with OK on the home screen (for today) or with OK and then 0 (for another day).
After it has played, the ringing deletes itself from the memory. If you enter the same time as one that is already scheduled, the new one will play and not the old one. Another way: OK and then 0, choose the date and press OK, highlight a line and press OK, go with the arrow to «ΕΙΣΑΓΩΓΗ» (insert) and press OK, and fill in the time and melody; in the list it will be shown with «+». For Easter and the feasts that change date, this is the safest way, year by year.
Cancel a ringing for one day only
- On the home screen press OK and then 0. «ΡΥΘΜΙΣΗ ΗΜΕΡΟΜΗΝΙΑΣ» (set date) appears.
- Check the date and change it if needed. Press OK.
- The «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΕΣ» (melodies) list for that day appears.
- With the up/down arrows highlight the ringing you do not want and press OK.
- With «ΑΠΕΝΕΡΓΟΠΟΙΗΣΗ» (disable) highlighted, press OK.
- The line now appears red and crossed out: it will not play on that day only. Press NO to go back to the home screen.
On the following days the schedule continues as normal. To restore it, highlight it again and press OK; you will see «ΕΝΕΡΓΟΠΟΙΗΣΗ» (enable) in place of «ΑΠΕΝΕΡΓΟΠΟΙΗΣΗ». No code is needed.
Stop all automatic ringing (and turn it back on)
- To the right of the screen, find the first (top) button, the one with the hourglass.
- Hold it down for about 5 seconds.
- The hourglass at the top left of the screen turns grey. The automatic ringing stops until you turn it back on.
- To check, press OK: an asterisk * appears next to the times in the schedule. Press NO to go back to the home screen.
- To make them work again, hold the hourglass button down again for about 5 seconds. The hourglass on the screen turns gold again.
The service programmes keep working. The clock’s hour strikes have their own button (see “Hour strikes”). For a pause with an end date, see “Pause for a set period”. For a single ringing, see “Cancel for one day”.
⚠ While the hourglass is grey, the unit does not play any scheduled ringing. Don’t forget to turn it back on.
Pause the schedule for a set period (from–to)
- From the home screen press 1 for «ΑΜΜΕΣΗ ΠΡΟΣΒΑΣΗ» (direct access) and then 2 for «ΕΙΔΙΚΟΣ ΠΡΟΓ/ΣΜΟΣ» (special programming).
- Press 1 for «ΔΙΑΚΟΠΗ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑΤΟΣ» (schedule interruption). «ΑΝΑΣΤΟΛΗ ΗΧΟΥ» (sound suspension) appears with the date «ΗΜ ΜΗ ΕΤ» (day month year) and «ΑΝΑ ΩΡΑ» (at time).
- Type the time from which the ringing will stop. If it is not today, move to the date with the arrows and change it. Press OK.
- «ΕΝΕΡΓΟΠΟΙΗΣΗ ΗΧΟΥ» (sound activation) appears.
- Type the time and date when the automatic ringing will start again and press OK.
- Press NO a few times to go back to the home screen.
The clock’s hour strikes and the service programmes continue as normal. The setting deletes itself once it has been carried out.
⚠ Fill in BOTH screens (stop and restart). If the setting is done wrong, the unit may not start ringing again by itself.
Turn the schedule of a button I–V on/off
- Hold down the button you want (I, II, III, IV or V) for about 5 seconds.
- The matching symbol at the bottom left of the screen turns grey. The scheduled times of that melody will not play.
- In the OK list, the times of that melody appear red, crossed out, with an x in front.
- To turn them back on, hold the same button down for about 5 seconds. The symbol turns gold again.
The scheduled times of a button only play when its symbol is gold. Example: if melody 1 is scheduled at 16:00 and the symbol I is grey, it will not play at 16:00. With a short press, the button simply plays its melody.
New permanent ringing every day or every week (e.g. every Sunday)
- From the home screen press 2. «ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ ΚΑΜΠΑΝΙΣΜΩΝ» (bell-ringing schedule) appears.
- Press OK and enter the code when asked (requires a code — contact the company). Then press 3 for «ΤΥΠΙΚΗ» (standard).
- With «** ΝΕΟ» (new) highlighted, press OK. «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑ» (melody), «ΕΒ» (day of the week), «ΗΜ/ΜΗ/ΕΤ» (day/month/year) and «ΑΝΑ ΩΡΑ» (at time) appear.
- At «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑ» press OK, type the melody number (e.g. 50) and press OK.
- At «ΕΒ» (day): for every day leave «ΠΑΝΤΑ» (always). For one day of the week, press the left/right arrows until you see e.g. «ΚΥΡ» (Sun). Press OK.
- Type the time (e.g. 1 2 0 0 for 12:00) and press OK. The new line appears in the list.
- Press NO to leave and save.
- To check, press OK on the home screen (today) or OK and then 0 (another day).
There must be at least 1 minute between two melodies. If there is another ringing at the same time, «ΤΥΠΙΚΗ» takes priority over «ΤΥΠΙΚΗ ΗΜΕΡΑ» (standard day). Usually each church’s schedule has been set up by the technician, so for big changes (winter/summer schedule, ringing at sunrise/sunset) it is better to contact the company.
⚠ The schedule menu asks for a code. If you do not have it, contact the company.
Ringing every year on a specific date (e.g. 1 July)
- From the home screen press 2 for «ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ ΚΑΜΠΑΝΙΣΜΩΝ» (bell-ringing schedule), then OK, and enter the code (requires a code — contact the company).
- Press 3 for «ΤΥΠΙΚΗ» (standard) and, with «** ΝΕΟ» (new) highlighted, press OK.
- At «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑ» (melody) press OK, type the melody number (e.g. 52) and press OK.
- Press OK again.
- With the up arrow move to «ΗΜ/ΜΗ/ΕΤ» (day/month/year) and type the day and month (e.g. 0 1 0 7 for 1 July).
- Type the time (e.g. 1 2 0 0) and press OK. The new line appears in the list.
- Press NO to leave and save.
The ringing will play every year on that date. For one year only, see “Add for one day only”, which does not ask for a code.
⚠ The schedule menu asks for a code. If you are not sure, contact the company.
Change the melody of a scheduled ringing
- If you do not know the time and number of the ringing, first press OK on the home screen, write them down and press NO.
- Press 2 for «ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ ΚΑΜΠΑΝΙΣΜΩΝ» (bell-ringing schedule), then OK, and enter the code (requires a code — contact the company).
- Choose the section where the ringing is entered, e.g. 3 for «ΤΥΠΙΚΗ» (standard) or 1 for «ΤΥΠΙΚΗ ΗΜΕΡΑ» (standard day).
- With the up/down arrows highlight the line, e.g. «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑ:50 … ΠΑΝΤΑ 12:00» (melody 50 … always 12:00), and press OK.
- With «ΕΠΕΞΕΡΓΑΣΙΑ» (edit) highlighted, press OK.
- At «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑ» (melody) press OK, type the new number and press OK. Go through the rest (day, time) with OK without changing them.
- Press NO to leave and save.
- Press OK on the home screen and check that the new number is shown.
In «ΤΥΠΙΚΗ ΗΜΕΡΑ» you first highlight the standard day, press OK and «ΕΠΕΞΕΡΓΑΣΙΑ», and then choose the line inside it. If the ringing plays one of the melodies 1–5 (buttons I–V), you can change the button’s melody directly (see “Change the melody on a button I–V”).
⚠ Be careful not to press «ΔΙΑΓΡΑΦΗ» (delete) by mistake. If you cannot find the line, or the church’s schedule is complex (standard weeks, feast days), it is better to contact the company.
Change the time of a scheduled ringing (e.g. Vespers one hour earlier)
- Choose the section where it is entered, e.g. 3 for «ΤΥΠΙΚΗ» (standard) or 1 for «ΤΥΠΙΚΗ ΗΜΕΡΑ» (standard day).
- With the up/down arrows highlight the line and press OK.
- With «ΕΠΕΞΕΡΓΑΣΙΑ» (edit) highlighted, press OK.
- Go through «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑ» (melody) and the day with OK, without changing them, until you reach «ΑΝΑ ΩΡΑ» (at time).
- Type the new time (e.g. 1 7 0 0) and press OK.
- Press NO to leave and save. Check with OK on the home screen.
Many churches have a separate winter and summer schedule (standard days/weeks). Changing one line changes only that line. If you want the change for one day only, cancel the old time (“Cancel for one day”) and add the new one (“Add for one day only”).
⚠ Be careful not to press «ΔΙΑΓΡΑΦΗ» (delete) by mistake. If the church’s schedule is complex, contact the company.
Permanently delete a ringing from the schedule
- Press 2 for «ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ ΚΑΜΠΑΝΙΣΜΩΝ» (bell-ringing schedule), then OK, and enter the code (requires a code — contact the company).
- Choose the section where the ringing is entered, e.g. 3 for «ΤΥΠΙΚΗ» (standard).
- With the up/down arrows highlight the line and press OK.
- Go with the arrows to «ΔΙΑΓΡΑΦΗ» (delete) and press OK.
- Press NO to leave and save. Press OK on the home screen to check.
If you only want it not to ring on one day, there is no need to delete it; see “Cancel for one day”, which does not ask for a code.
⚠ Deleting is permanent. In «ΤΥΠΙΚΗ ΗΜΕΡΑ» (standard day), «ΔΙΑΓΡΑΦΗ» in the first list deletes the whole standard day. If you are not sure, contact the company.
Ringing on a major feast every year (e.g. Christmas, Theophany)
- Press 2 for «ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ ΚΑΜΠΑΝΙΣΜΩΝ» (bell-ringing schedule), then OK, and enter the code (requires a code — contact the company).
- Press 5 for «ΕΟΡΤΗ» (feast) and then 1 for «ΙΕΡΑ ΠΑΝΗΓΥΡΙΣ» (holy feast).
- With «** ΝΕΟ» (new) highlighted, press OK.
- With the left/right arrows choose the feast, e.g. «ΧΡΙΣΤΟΥΓΕΝΝΑ 25/12» (Christmas) or «ΘΕΟΦΑΝΙΑ 06/01» (Theophany), and press OK.
- With the left/right arrows choose what will play, «ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑ» (melody) or «ΤΥΠΙΚΗ ΜΕΡΑ» (standard day), type the number and press OK.
- At «ΑΝΑ ΩΡΑ» (at time) type the time and press OK.
- Press NO to leave and save.
The ringing will play every year on the feast. If the feast you want is not in the list (e.g. the town’s patron saint), the technician adds it. For a fixed date you can also use “Ringing every year on a specific date”. For one year only, see “Add for one day only”.
⚠ For Easter and the feasts that change date: the manual’s table of Easter dates does not match Orthodox Easter (e.g. it gives 01/04/2018 and 05/04/2026). Do not rely on the automatic calculation; enter the ringing each year with “Add for one day only” or contact the company.
Funeral toll (funeral, Holy Week)
- Find the number of the funeral toll on the «ΜΝΗΜΕΣ» (memories) card. Usually 10 is «ΠΕΝΘΙΜΟ ΚΗΔΕΙΑΣ» (funeral toll), about 5 minutes long, and 29 is «ΠΕΝΘΙΜΟ Μ. ΕΒΔΟΜΑΔΑΣ» (Holy Week toll), about 15 minutes long.
- Press the button with the pointing hand (bottom right, next to the screen). «ΕΚΤΕΛΕΣΗ ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑΣ» (play melody) appears.
- Type the number (e.g. 1 0) and press OK. The funeral toll starts.
- To play it again, press OK while it is playing.
- To stop it, press NO twice.
- To make it ring by itself at a set time and day (e.g. tomorrow at 11:00), see “Add for one day only”.
The basic melody list also has «ΚΗΔΕΙΑ» (funeral), «ΚΗΔΕΙΑ ΙΕΡΕΟΣ» (funeral of a priest), «ΜΝΗΜΟΣΥΝΟ» (memorial service), «ΕΠΙΤΑΦΕΙΟΣ» (Epitaphios) and «Μ. ΠΑΡΑΣΚΕΥΗ» (Holy Friday), as well as funeral tolls for different numbers of bells. Choose the one that suits your number of bells, using the «ΚΑΜΠΑΝΕΣ» (bells) column. The numbers may differ from unit to unit; your church’s card/list is the one that applies. You can also ring the bell by hand from the keys (see “Ring the bells by hand”).
Ring the bells by hand from keys 1–9
- To the right of the screen, press the 4th button from the top, the one with the hand holding a hammer.
- Two options appear: «1 ΠΛΗΚΤΡΑ 1-9» (keys 1-9) and «2 ΣΦΥΡΙΑ» (strikers).
- Press 1.
- Press the number keys (1 to 9) below the screen to ring the bells by hand.
- When you have finished, press NO a few times to go back to the home screen.
⚠ Option 2 («ΣΦΥΡΙΑ») is only for real bells and plays strikers and swinging bells together. Wrong use can cause serious damage to the electromagnetic striker; use it only if the technician has shown you how.
Swinging bells (with a motor) by hand
- This only applies if your church has bells that swing with a motor.
- To the right of the screen, press the 3rd button from the top, the one with the moving bell.
- «ΕΚΤΕΛΕΣΗ ΚΙΝΗΤΗΣ» (run swinging) appears with the fields «ΕΝΟΤ.ΑΡ.:» (unit no.) and «ΡΥΘΜΟΣ» (rhythm).
- Type the numbers of the bells you want to swing.
- Set the time with the up/down arrows.
- Press OK to start them.
- To stop them, press NO a few times.
⚠ The correct “impulse time” of each bell is set by the technician. If it is wrong, serious damage can be done to the electromagnetic striker. Do not play strikers and swinging bells at the same time unless the technician has shown you how.
Hour strikes of the clock: on / off
- Look at the top middle of the screen for the symbol with the clock and the hammer. Gold = the hour strikes are on. Grey = off.
- To the right of the screen, find the 2nd button from the top (clock with a hand holding a hammer).
- Hold it down for more than 5 seconds.
- The symbol on the screen changes from gold to grey or the other way round. Check that it shows what you want.
- Another way: press 1, then 2 for «ΕΙΔΙΚΟΣ ΠΡΟΓ/ΣΜΟΣ» (special programming) and then 3 for «ΕΚΤΕΛΕΣΗ ΥΠΗΡΕΣΙΑΣ» (run service). Type 21 for «ΕΝΕΡΓ. ΚΤΥΠΟΥ» (strike on) to switch on, or 22 for «ΑΠΕΝΕΡΓ. ΚΤΥΠΟΥ» (strike off) to switch off, press OK, then 1 and OK.
If the schedule switches the strikes on automatically at some time (e.g. every morning), the strikes will come back on by themselves at that time. The type of strikes (hours only, hours and half hours, quarters, etc.) and their speed are set by the technician. So that it does not strike at night, see “Silence the clock at night”.
Silence the clock at night (hour strikes off/on automatically)
- Press 2 for «ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ ΚΑΜΠΑΝΙΣΜΩΝ» (bell-ringing schedule), then OK, and enter the code (requires a code — contact the company).
- Press 6 for «ΚΑΘΗΜΕΡΙΝΑ» (daily). With «** ΝΕΟ» (new) highlighted, press OK.
- At «ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑΤΙΣΜΟΣ ΕΚΔΗΛΩΣΗΣ» (event programming) choose 2 for «ΥΠΗΡΕΣΙΑ» (service) and press OK on «** ΝΕΟ».
- Enter «FRM 01/01 ΣΤΟ 31/12» (from 01/01 to 31/12) and, at «ΑΝΑ ΩΡΑ» (at time), the morning time (e.g. 06:55).
- With the right arrow choose «ΕΝΕΡΓ. ΡΟΛΟΓ.» (clock on) and press OK.
- Press OK for a new programme: enter 01/01 to 31/12, time 22:05, choose «ΑΠΕΝ. ΡΟΛΟΓ.» (clock off) and press OK.
- Press NO to leave and save.
- Check: OK on the home screen and then the right arrow for «ΥΠΗΡΕΣΙΕΣ» (services). Both times must be shown.
This is the manual’s example: the clock strikes the hours from 07:00 to 22:00. If two periods overlap, the one entered last applies. If you do not have the code, the company can set this up for you.
⚠ The schedule menu asks for a code. If you are not sure about the steps, contact the company.
Volume (speakers / electronic bells)
- From the home screen press 1 for «ΑΜΜΕΣΗ ΠΡΟΣΒΑΣΗ» (direct access) and then 4 for «ΕΛΕΓΧΟΣ ΗΧΟΥ» (sound control).
- Press 2 for «ΕΛΕΓΧΟΣ ΕΝΤΑΣΗΣ-ΤΟΝΟΥ» (volume-tone control) and then 1, again «ΕΛΕΓΧΟΣ ΕΝΤΑΣΗΣ-ΤΟΝΟΥ».
- The list appears: «ΚΥΡΙΑ ΕΝΤΑΣΗ» (main volume), «ΟΘΟΝΗ» (screen), «ΝΥΧΤΕΡΙΝΗ ΕΝΤΑΣΗ» (night volume), «ΩΡΙΑΙΑ ΚΡΟΥΣΗ» (hour strike), «ΝΥΧΤ.ΩΡΙΑΙΑ ΚΡΟΥΣΗ» (night hour strike), «ΣΤΑΘΕΡΗ» (fixed), «ΚΙΝΗΣΗ» (swinging), with a number next to each.
- With the up/down arrows go to the volume you want to change.
- Type the new value with the number keys and press OK.
- Press NO to leave and keep the settings. If «ΑΝΑΒΑΘΜΙΣΗ» (update) appears, choose «ΝΑΙ» (yes) with the arrows and press OK.
«ΚΥΡΙΑ ΕΝΤΑΣΗ»: the overall volume. «ΟΘΟΝΗ»: the unit’s small speaker. «ΝΥΧΤΕΡΙΝΗ ΕΝΤΑΣΗ»: the volume when night mode (the little moon) is on. «ΩΡΙΑΙΑ ΚΡΟΥΣΗ»: only the hour strikes. «ΣΤΑΘΕΡΗ»: the melodies. «ΚΙΝΗΣΗ»: the swinging bells. These settings concern the sound from speakers (electronic bells). The striking force on real bells with strikers is set by the technician.
Turn the external speaker on / off
- From the home screen press 1 for «ΑΜΜΕΣΗ ΠΡΟΣΒΑΣΗ» (direct access) and then 4 for «ΕΛΕΓΧΟΣ ΗΧΟΥ» (sound control).
- The first line reads «ΕΞΩΤΕΡΙΚΟ ΗΧΕΙΟ ON» (external speaker on) or «OFF». Press 1 to change it.
- At «ΑΝΑΒΑΘΜΙΣΗ» (update) choose «ΝΑΙ» (yes) with the arrows and press OK.
- On the home screen, bottom right: speaker with waves = on, speaker with a red X = off.
The same can be done from «ΕΚΤΕΛΕΣΗ ΥΠΗΡΕΣΙΑΣ» (run service) with number 27 for «ΗΧΕΙΟ ΕΝΕΡΓΟ» (speaker on) or 28 for «ΗΧΕΙΟ ΑΝΕΝΕΡΓΟ» (speaker off). It only concerns the sound from speakers (electronic bells), not real bells with strikers.
Night mode (lower volume) – the little moon
- From the home screen press 1, then 2 for «ΕΙΔΙΚΟΣ ΠΡΟΓ/ΣΜΟΣ» (special programming) and then 3 for «ΕΚΤΕΛΕΣΗ ΥΠΗΡΕΣΙΑΣ» (run service).
- At «ΕΚΤΕΛ. ΥΠΗΡ.ΑΡ.:» (run service no.) type 25 to switch night volume on or 26 to switch it off, and press OK.
- At the question «ΕΠΙΒΕΒΑΙΩΣΗ;1=ΝΑΙ» (confirm? 1 = yes) press 1 and then OK.
- On the home screen, at the bottom right, the little moon is blue when night mode is on and grey when it is off.
Night mode lowers the sound to the «ΝΥΧΤΕΡΙΝΗ ΕΝΤΑΣΗ» (night volume) setting (see “Volume”). With 26 the volume returns to the main volume. It concerns the sound from speakers.
Run a service programme by its number
- From the home screen press 1 for «ΑΜΜΕΣΗ ΠΡΟΣΒΑΣΗ» (direct access), then 2 for «ΕΙΔΙΚΟΣ ΠΡΟΓ/ΣΜΟΣ» (special programming) and then 3 for «ΕΚΤΕΛΕΣΗ ΥΠΗΡΕΣΙΑΣ» (run service).
- The list of services appears. Choose with the up/down arrows or type the number at «ΕΚΤΕΛ. ΥΠΗΡ.ΑΡ.:» (run service no.).
- Press OK. The screen shows the number and asks «ΕΠΙΒΕΒΑΙΩΣΗ;1=ΝΑΙ» (confirm? 1 = yes).
- Press 1 and then OK.
- In the list, an asterisk * next to a number means that the service is active. Press NO a few times to go back to the home screen.
Useful numbers: 21 / 22 = hour strikes on / off; 23 / 24 = scheduled melodies on / off; 39 / 40 = melodies and strikes together on / off; 25 / 26 = night volume yes / no; 27 / 28 = speaker on / off; 42 = screen always on (not recommended, it shortens the life of the screen); 43 = the screen lights up briefly only when you press a button. Numbers 01–13 change the type of hour strikes; 13 is «ΟΧΙ ΡΟΛΟΙ» (no clock). Ask the company before using them. Do not use numbers marked «ΕΚΤΟΣ ΧΡΗΣΗΣ» (not in use), nor the relays/AUX (31–32, 35–38).
Remote control (optional)
- Switch the remote control on with the ON/OFF button.
- Type the melody number. The number appears on the remote’s screen.
- Press the green START button. The melody starts.
- To stop it, press the red STOP button.
- For a service programme: press the orange S button (the screen shows «S»), type the service number and press START.
The remote control is optional and is not included in the basic equipment. It has a 5″ touch screen, a rechargeable lithium battery and a battery indicator. When the unit receives a command, the antenna at the bottom right of the unit’s screen flashes green; if it is grey, the remote control is inactive or not sending. The range gets shorter when there are obstacles between you and the church.
Control from a mobile phone / Wi-Fi
- The GM-370 instructions do not describe any connection to Wi-Fi, the internet or a mobile phone app.
- For operation from a distance there is the optional remote control (see “Remote control”).
- For anything else, please contact Tsitouras Bros Co. (Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00 Greek time) on +30 210 555 0700 or by email at info@bells.gr.
Keypad lock (padlock) and codes
- Look at the bottom middle of the screen for the padlock. Blue = «ΣΥΣΤΗΜΑ ΚΛΕΙΔΩΜΕΝΟ» (system locked), grey = «ΣΥΣΤΗΜΑ ΞΕΚΛΕΙΔΩΤΟ» (system unlocked).
- Locking or unlocking: (requires a code — contact the company).
- Menus 2, «ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ ΚΑΜΠΑΝΙΣΜΩΝ» (bell-ringing schedule), and 5, «ΓΕΝΙΚΕΣ ΡΥΘΜΙΣΕΙΣ» (general settings), also ask for a code: (requires a code — contact the company).
The codes are there so that nobody changes the schedule by mistake. In the instructions, menu 1 (clock, special programming, sound), the OK button and the buttons to the right and left of the screen do not ask for a code.
What the symbols on the screen mean
- Top left, hourglass: gold = the automatic bell-ringing schedule is working, grey = it is stopped.
- Top middle, clock with hammer: gold = the hour strikes are on, grey = off.
- Top right, tower with clock: gold = the tower clock is working, grey = out of service.
- Bottom left, I–V: gold = the scheduled times of each button are active, grey = they do not play.
- Padlock: blue = locked, grey = unlocked. Speaker: with waves = the external speaker is on, with a red X = off.
- Little moon: blue = night mode (low volume) is on, grey = off.
- GPS / DCF: green = the correct time was received from a receiver after midnight, grey = there is no receiver or it was not received. Antenna: flashes green when a command arrives from the remote control, grey = remote control inactive.
- Blue sun with «+1»: the automatic summer/winter time is active (grey sun = inactive). Green «USB»: a USB stick is plugged in (grey = none).
After a power cut
- When the power comes back, check the time and date on the home screen. The clock is kept running by an internal lithium battery and the bell-ringing schedule is not lost.
- If the time or date is wrong, correct them (see “Change the time” and “Change the date”).
- If you have a tower clock, the unit brings the hands to the correct time by itself after the power cut. If they still show the wrong time, see “The tower clock shows the wrong time”.
- If the power cut happened on the night of the summer/winter time change, the change will be made within the next 22 hours.
- Press OK to see that today’s schedule appears normally, and then NO.
The clock battery lasts about 10 years. Lights or heating that the unit controls with relay timing will be off once the power returns.
⚠ Do not open the unit or its power supply. Use only the power supply that came with the unit.
The tower clock shows the wrong time
- First make sure that the unit’s own time is correct (see “Change the time”).
- From the home screen press 1, then 1 for «ΡΟΛΟΙ» (clock) and then 7 for «ΡΥΘΜΙΣΗ ΡΟΛΟΓΙΟΥ» (clock setting). «ΩΡΑ» (hour) and «ΛΕΠΤΑ» (minutes) appear.
- While you are on this screen, the hands of the clock in the bell tower stop. Look and note down exactly what time they show.
- Type the hour the hands show and press OK. Type the minutes and press OK.
- «ΑΝΑΒΑΘΜΙΣΗ» (update) appears. Choose «ΝΑΙ» (yes) with the left/right arrows and press OK. (With NO you leave without any change.)
- The unit brings the hands to the correct time by itself.
The tower with the clock at the top right of the screen must be gold (working). If it is grey, or if the hands do not correct themselves, contact the company.
The screen is off / went back to the start by itself
- Press NO once. On many units the screen lights up only when you press a button, so that it does not wear out.
- If you were in a menu and did not press anything for a few minutes, the unit goes back to the home screen by itself. This is normal.
- If the screen stays black and nothing responds, check that the unit’s power supply is plugged in and that there is power.
- If the problem continues, do not open the unit. Please contact Tsitouras Bros Co. (Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00 Greek time) on +30 210 555 0700 or by email at info@bells.gr.
The screen can be set to stay on all the time (service 42), but the manual does not recommend it because it shortens the life of the screen.
It does not ring / rings at the wrong time – what to check
- Look at the hourglass at the top left of the screen. If it is grey, the automatic schedule is stopped: hold down the top button on the right (hourglass) for about 5 seconds, until it turns gold.
- Not striking the hours? Look at the clock with the hammer (top middle). If it is grey, hold down the 2nd button on the right for more than 5 seconds.
- Look at I–V at the bottom left. If one is grey, the scheduled times of that button do not play: hold the button down for about 5 seconds.
- Press OK to see today’s schedule. Red, crossed-out lines will not play; the asterisk * means the schedule is stopped. Press NO to leave.
- Check the time and date on the home screen. If they are wrong, correct them (1 → 1 → 1 and 1 → 1 → 2) and check summer time (1 → 1 → 4).
- If the ringing stopped for a few days, has someone set «ΔΙΑΚΟΠΗ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑΤΟΣ» (schedule interruption) at 1 → 2 → 1? Then it starts again by itself on the restart date that was entered.
- If you have speakers and nothing can be heard, see whether the speaker at the bottom right of the screen has a red X. If so, switch it on from 1 → 4 → 1.
- If the problem is not solved, please contact Tsitouras Bros Co. (Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00 Greek time) on +30 210 555 0700 or by email at info@bells.gr.
At 1 → 3 «ΠΡΟΒΟΛΗ ΕΞΟΔΩΝ» (output view) a green indicator shows which striker, motor or service is working at that moment; useful if the technician asks you on the phone. The manual has no list of error messages.
⚠ Do not climb up to the bells’ strikers or motors and do not open the unit. Repairs are done by the technician.
Change the melody on a button I–V
- Find the number of the melody you want (see “Melody list”). Button I corresponds to 1, II to 2, … V to 5.
- From the home screen press 3. «ΗΧΟΣ ΚΑΜΠΑΝΑΣ» (bell sound) appears.
- Press 5 for «ΔΙΑΓΡΑΦΗ» (delete). At «ΕΠΙΛΟΓΗ ΑΡΙΘΜΟΥ ΜΕΛΩΔΙΑΣ» (select melody number) type the button’s number (e.g. 3) and press OK.
- «ΑΚΥΡΟ ΟΧΙ» (delete: no) appears. With the left/right arrows change it to «ΝΑΙ» (yes) and press OK. The button’s old melody is deleted.
- Go back to «ΗΧΟΣ ΚΑΜΠΑΝΑΣ» (press NO if needed) and press 4 for «ΑΝΤΙΓΡΑΦΗ» (copy).
- Type the number of the melody you want and press OK. «ΑΝΤΙΓΡΑΦΗ ΑΠΟ» (copy from) and «ΝΕΟΣ ΑΡΙΘΜΟΣ» (new number) appear.
- At «ΝΕΟΣ ΑΡΙΘΜΟΣ» type the button’s number (e.g. 3) and press OK.
- Press NO a few times and briefly press the button: you should see the new title. Press NO if you do not want it to play now.
Buttons I–V always play the melodies numbered 1–5, so it is enough to copy the melody you want to one of these numbers. Copying only works to a free number, which is why the old one is deleted first. The factory melodies cannot be deleted; only those created or copied by the user or the company can be deleted.
⚠ Deleting is permanent. If the button’s melody also plays at scheduled times, from then on the new melody will play. The manual recommends making a backup before changing melodies; if you are not sure, contact the company to have the technician do it.
Record your own melody from keys 1–9
- From the home screen press 4. «ΕΓΓΡΑΦΗ» (recording) appears with «1 ΠΛΗΚΤΡΑ 1-9» (keys 1-9) and «2 ΕΞΩΤ. ΠΛΗΚΤΡΑ» (external keys).
- Press 1 to record from the unit’s keys. If asked, choose a type and press OK.
- Play the melody by pressing the number keys 1–9.
- When you have finished, press NO. «1 ΔΟΚΙΜΗ» (test), «2 ΕΠΑΛΗΘΕΥΣΗ» (check) and «3 ΑΠΟΘΗΚΕΥΣΗ» (save) appear.
- Press 1 for «ΔΟΚΙΜΗ» to hear it, or 2 for «ΕΠΑΛΗΘΕΥΣΗ» to correct it.
- Press 3 for «ΑΠΟΘΗΚΕΥΣΗ»: type a free number and press OK.
- Type a title of up to 15 letters (up/down arrows for the letter, left/right for the position) and press OK.
The unit has memory for 500 melodies of your own. Afterwards you play it like any other, by its number.
⚠ Save only to a free number, not to a number used in the schedule or on the buttons I–V. More complex melody composition, in menu 3 «ΣΥΛΛΟΓΗ» (collection), is better left to the technician.
Restart / the unit has frozen
This setting is done by our technician.
The system reset is done by the technician (requires a code — contact the company).
Change the menu language
This setting is done by our technician.
The unit also has Greek, but the translation is not complete, so some screens may show English words.
Backup / transfer melodies via USB
This setting is done by our technician.
When a stick is plugged in, a green «USB» appears at the bottom right of the screen.
Installation settings (strikers, motors, type of hour strike, tower clock, new feasts, software)
This setting is done by our technician.
Set by the technician: the number and type of bells (strikers/motors), the striking force and the impulse time, the type of hour strikes and their night form, the melody before the hour, the tower clock, new feasts with a movable date, the programmes for lights/heating/doors, the language, the codes, the backups and the software update.
